Wow. That's awesome. Just in case you like, forget your name and D.O.B.
Not really that stupid. My Dad's Coworker who served in ODS Got his last name tattooed with his Unit insignia on his back, with this really elaborate Tiger with the Helmet and an M16 in it wrapped around his name and insignia so his remains (at least his torso) could be identified and his remains sent back in case he died in combat and lost his tags as a way to be identified. I was thinking of getting This (Stenciled, not filled in,) either on the inside of my left wrist or left ankle.

There are plenty of ways to identify a body, you know.

Have you seen a body after a Direct hit from an IED? You could go for DNA, Fingerprints, Irises, Dental Records and such, but a lot of those things can be compromised in a war. If the dogtags are lost, you go away with no name.
Something like this is what I was thinking of getting on the back of my shoulder. I just think getting the stars would be a good choice to illustrate my general interest in space. tinybitgh3ymebbeidk ?

And what happens if the tattooed area is damaged/destroyed...
With the exception of a practical use, having your name and D.O.B. on your inner thigh just seems, ridiculous. What gain do you get from it?

I'd definatly have to agree with Geo on that, yes all the other methods can be compromised, but it seems that a tatoo would be the most likely to do so. It just seems like a very poorly thought-out method to be recognized.
It would be protected and nobody would ever see it. If I had to get a normal tattoo though, I'd get something pretty normal, like 'I <3 <insert name here>' sort of thing.
For anybody still wondering where FTD has gone, here it is.
