Basially it comes down to this. Either you can take back your mp3 and suffer whatever consequances (detention, suspension etc), or you can let him keep it. That's the decision you've given yourself. Personally, I'd tell him to F off and take the detention, but it's up to you.

I'd personally love to do that, but he would almost definitely expel me from the school, and the alternative school would be much worse than not having an MP3 player for about 3 weeks. I live in New Orleans, you know, public school=death.

This really is more of a fight for your parents. You could probably get it back if you had them ask nicely. A nice person would give it back due to the fact that it was after all your classes. He would also probably slap you on the wrist and say don't do it again. I'm afraid Dan!! is also right; you pretty much have to submit to most all authority as a minor. You'll just have to get used to it.

Well your parents can just call him up and ask for it back and if he says no then you can call the police and have him arrested for stealing.

Due to the fact that I'm a minor, and could prover insanity easily, I'd probably get 3-5, and maybe get out early on good behavior. Lol, just kidding[size=0]...or am I...[/size]
I'm probably going to get my mom to complain about stealing etc.
P.S. but I'm never going to surrender my rights especially to an idiot like my principal.

Umm, no he is an asshole as stated multiple times, he wasn't going to give it back anyway.

That doesn't change what you did. I don't think you realize how much power the principal actually has. Unless the board gets him, he can pretty much do whatever he wants. Doesn't matter how crazy he is, you're still pretty much screwed now.

wow... i like my school now.... are teachers (well most of them) let you listen to music if your doing seat work or something and only care if their teaching a lesson. and they never confiscate them only tell us to put them away

Ok, heres something I just thought of, the handbooks given to us at the beginning of the year have to be signed, none of them ever were, and if they added a new rule, wouldn't they have to be re-signed?

'sucks getting your MP3 confiscated... Can't give any good advice though (Although the manslaughter option sounds tempting... or not.).

Just a quick cheer for my school though, we're free to use MP3's whenever the teacher isn't speaking to the class. If you're using speakers it may :occasionally: get confiscated (Most of the time they just say "meh" and walk away if the volume is low enough), and you'll get it back at the end of the day.

Too bad 90% of my classmates are loudmouthed idiots who listen to nothing but pop music, and who just love to crank up the volume from "allowed in class" to "rock concert" loud when the teacher leaves the room, as far as Ipod speakers or cellphones go. >_>;

I wish the problems in my life were as simple as having an MP3 player confiscated.

I say you find something better to do. Just face it, by making this topic... and discussing the law is just immature. Follow the schoolr rules, or accept the punishment. Personally, I'd just get my parents to say something...

Same here. My teachers will say not to put them in when they give the assignment and notes, but once we're doing our work, they could care less.
