Ok. Let's make one thing clear restricting or banning firearms in the U.S. is clearly not going to stop the problem. If you want to kill someone you do it any way possible. Besides it is very simple to make firearms. I myself have fashioned many exploding and firing devices in the past with the capacity of severely injuring or possibly killing people. (Don't worry that part of me is over.) I personally believe that I should, however, have the right to defend myself when someone tries to attack me. Just because some **** emo goes crazy and slaughters people doesn't mean that the government should take rights aways from sane people.
I'm not going to take specific sides or insult anyone in this post, as others have done, but I believe that guns, though they are used in careless, thoughtless violence, should not be banned illegal. First off, they would never be diminished, or collected or whatever. There are already way too many guns in the United States. Also, if somehow, all or most guns owned by 'honest' civilians were taken, only the criminals would have access to them. If someone wanted to kill someone, guns or no guns, they would do it.
And also, my brother lives in California. He lives in Thousand Oaks, one of the safest places in the United States yet he owns two pisols, two shotguns, and a rifle. There is a major earthquake expected within the next 50 years and I sure as hell wouldnt wan't anyone breaking into his or my house in any emergency or disaster. Take Katrina on New Orleans as an example. People were fucking animals. I would want to have a quick, easy method to defend myself, and in that case, the cleanest way would be a gun. I'd rather be shot than stabbed and I'd rather shoot then stab.
The US is not the safest place...at all, of course it depends on location. Bad people may have possesion of guns, and I wouldnt want to depend on the police to take their time and come rescue me from a gun or knife wielding person.
Also, it is not the usage of guns but the mentality of the wielder of a firearm. The murderer of VTech was obviously disturbed. I heard his recordings that he sent in and I saw his pictures.
We cannot prevent violence and prevent death by the removing of firearms. Sure, 33 people wouldnt have died in this case if there was no guns, but fatalities nationwide would rise if firearms were prohibited. The bad guys would have the bad weapons, leaving the good guys unarmed and vulnerable.
Yeah, because making drugs illegal really stopped anyone from ever getting them, right? By banning guns, you take them away from the people who want them for legitimate purposes and instead make it a black market item for gangs, terrorists, killers, etc.

Saying Guns can't be outlawed because its on the Bill of Rights is like saying the Admendment about slavery couldn't have been outlawed because it was already written in. The 2nd Admendment is just that, an Admendment it wasn't even included in the original constitution.

That sounds more likely.
From what I can tell a lot of people are against the banning of guns. Any one of you care to give a solution to the problem, besides arming everyone?
Also bill of rights, shmill of shrights. If you think the government won't take away your "unalienable" rights because it feels it should, you're wrong, and you're a few years behind.

Ok Tural, so say there were no guns anywhere in america, how the *** would they get at one?
if there were no guns in the US, the criminals would get them from Mexico, or they would just use knives/clubs. guns aren't the issue here, it's people who are of the mindset and inclination to kill other people that are the problem. getting rid of guns merely means that you have to find another way to kill someone.
shadowkhas wrote:Anyway, I think guns are all fine, it's mostly the mentality of the people behind them. You didn't see people running around much with guns killing people prior to the time we had a saturation to violence in things like the media, I'm sad to say. And no, I don't mean that nobody killed each other before Pulp Fiction, it's just that there is undeniably a higher frequency of larger killings lately.
Um, if you would have read my post and used some of your OWN reasoning behind it, you would see that the media example is very loose and it's more of a MENTALITY change of the people that I'm referring to. Don't insult me by calling me that. :p

Just because we don't have a perfect solution doesnt mean we should toss out one that would obviously fail.

Merely pointing out that "Mexican" had nothing to do with what he was saying, and it came off sounding racist.

Eh? "Don't have a perfect solution"? You don't have a solution. There is no perfect solution, we're trying to put a dent in gun crime because we know we can't eliminate it. If you're not posing any solution because it's not "perfect" you're just being ridiculous.

I agree but, even though I'm not with mormons and kinda dislike some of their beliefs, I think saying mormon sounded kind of discriminative also.

I had something witty with which to reply, but an angel buried a magic book in my backyard and I have to go dig it up and start a religion. (Honestly, isn't that how they all start out anyway?)
