A shader is what combines all the bump maps, normal maps and detail maps together to create a smoother more realistic look and feel. In the shader tag there are idents that refrance the bitmaps used for the shader. If u cange the shader of an object the bitmap will obviously change with it so you would have to relink the bitmap to the different shader.

Yea; I'll fine some more useless technical info that anybody can find in a matter of secounds for youas well
Google:
# A shader defines the final surface properties of an object. For example, a shader can define the color, reflectivity, and transluscency of a surface.
www.davidgould.com/Glossary/Glossary.htm
# A Shader in the field of computer graphics is a set of software instructions, which is used by the graphic resources primarily to perform rendering effects.

Changing/swapping shaders can potentially serve an adverse affect if not properly utilized.

As in, if you apply a shader to something that doesn't really go, then it will make the object or surface look horrid.
Example: Using a metal shader for some kind of natural element, such as, a tree...dunno why you would, but it's an example.

(hypocrite).
rick, let's not turn this into an argument or start name calling. That was rude of Jackson but no need to flip your top. Just let it be, it's worth it.
