New model skinning?

Ok i just made a perfect model of the spartan laser, tested it in game and everything.
BUT
In the past I have always had other people skin my new models.
So my question is how do i skin custom models?

I'd guess its just like skinning vehicles but I know sod all about skinning so I'd wait for an answer from someone who knows

UV map it. If you used 3ds max look up some tutorials. If milkshape you are basically screwed. If that deep explorer paint thing program then look up some tuts.

is there anyway i can just use like the rocket launcher skin?

Not really. I am not entirely sure how UV maps work but it is applied to the mesh and when that is changed the UV does not know what to do, so with an entirely new model it randomly places the textures. You could post a thread in the project recruitment area asking if someone could UV your model.
