Plasma stun effect from H2:CE mod

Post by CaptainPoopface »

In the H2:CE mods, while you are repeatedly shot with the plasma rifle and plasma pistol, it causes you to move and turn more slowly. Does anyone know in specific detail how this was achieved?

I know for a fact it involves more than the Stun 1, Stun 2, Stun Time, etc. fields in the jpt! tag, as well as the stun-related fields in the [matg]. I have copied these verbatim between a H2:CE map and a regular map, and I still can't replicate the effect. I've also checked the [bipd] and [hlmt] tags but don't see any meat there, or any number of other places I've checked. I haven't yet pored over the 20+ pages in the H2:CE thread. Working on that now... (Admins: How about a text-only archive where each thread gets one web page?)

The reason I ask is that I managed to make two nifty new guns: one of them stuns you in one shot, greatly slowing down your turn, movement and jump speed. It would work flawlessly for a stun grenade or a game of freeze tag. The other gun temporarily reverses your controls! Down becomes up, left becomes right, and forward becomes backward. It's confusing and hilarious. Then the effect wears off, and the controls revert to normal. I believe it is related to the plasma stun effect.

I came across these effects by poking around in a H2:CE map, and I can't transfer them to a non-H2:CE map without knowing how the plasma freeze was recreated in H2.

I used to know how to do this, you are right, Dest messed with the values in the bipd tag and in the matg tag, if I can remember any other ways he did it i'll let you know. Try showing all unknown bitmasks and compare the h2ce ones to default.[/quote]

Thanks. That's exactly what I did, and I got it working. He also referred to changing four values to "1" with H2x or Dark Matter, which helped.

I haven't yet tested the control-reversing effect, but the stun works, and that's the one I really wanted.

I recommend upping the stunning value for jumping, to keep jumping ability low while being stunned, or else everyone just jumps and gets out of it. Turning and moving are fine, but jumping gets you out easily even when you shouldn't.
