Some of the bitms in a halo 2 map are swizzled. Does anyone know how to unswizzle these bitms so they can be edited and so forth and such.

Yes i am refering to the bitm tags in halo 2 maps. An example would be ui\hud\bitmaps\new_hud\backgrounds\magnum_bkd. If you look in a map this image is scrambled and stuff. How do i go about unscrambling it, if that is even possible.

i did it, but the only way i could was to change where the bitmap went, so i went to the ndht and changed it to my duplicated bitmap and moved it around till it was right. make the bitmap white, and make sure to move it around in the bitmap and make sure it's big enough to move the new bitmap into the spot the old one was in
tada

so if i understand what you are saying:
- i have to duplicate a texture, say the texture for the battlerifle, the skin that is
- edit it so i have what lloks like a custom HUD image
- inject it back into my map
- and relink the dependancies sop the ndht uses my duplicated texture for the hud image
is that what you are saying?

yes
make sure the bitmap is big, since the first ones i tried were too small, so the bitmap were off from the spot it was supposed to be.
also, if you have adobe photoshop, i can give you my custom bitmap, since you need all that extra scenery around it. i got it as best i could, too. just tell me if you want it. also, you have to use the DXTBmp from the utilities to inject the alpha channel. to do that, save the bitmap ALSO in bmp when your done, so that you can inject the alpha channels with DXTBmp.
sorry if you can't understand that, i know it was long, but it worked for me.

okay, i tried your suggestion and i got the Custom HUD about 90% perfect. The only thing wrong with it is the colour. Look at the images provided and you will see what i mean.
notice on the first picture (the smg) there is a gradient (meaning from to-p to bottom the colour changes from a rich purple to a dull purple or a rich light blue to a dull light blue on the masterchief) while on the second pic (my custom HUD) there is no gradient, only the dull purple.
How do i make my custom HUD more like the original huds with the gradients.
I know im on the right track because the bottom of the gradient is the same colour as my custom HUDS colour.
btw, im talking about the area with the gun icon, not the numerical ammo area.

basically i just used alpha channles and what not. But in photoshop, i basically have like 30-40% transparency in the Alpha and in the RGB channle I made the background black. Ill keep working with this and see what i can come up with. If i ever do manage to perfect this, Expect a tutorial.

i didn't use rgb, i just used dxt2/3, or was it dxt5?

I used coag_moon2 as a base but thats not important. I have managed to get thios image about 99% perfect. I have achieved the gradient that I wanted. ALl that is left is to smooth out the edges and I will release a tutorial on how to to make custom HUDs like this and i will also release the base image for easier use. So hold on while i get this HUD 100% perfect
EDIT: i have done it. Since i know how to make the gradients I can now fully finish my HUD by adding the empty version of the hud. Keep an eye on the tuts section in the next day or so.
