Modding Hall of Fame
Modding Hall of Fame
The Halo 2 modding scene has been around for a long time now. For almost 3 years now, there have been a huge number of people who have contributed to the community in some way, shape or form, big or small.
I have lived to see the whole scene evolve in front of me and I am proud to have been a part of it for as long as I have.
From my own observation, I believe that the halo 2 modding scene, whilst there is a small bit left to go in terms of discovery, on the most part has reached its pinnacle.
So with that, I wanted to create a list to all the modding greats that have contributed to the halo 2 modding scene as a big thank you for helping the community out in some way. And for that, I need your help. Hopefully there are people that will help and post about key members who contributed so we can have a complete list.
I'll start things off which will also demonstrate the formula which should be used for when you guys nominate someone for the list.
Iron_Forge:
Does one really need to describe what he's done for us? Encyptomatic signature, the white paper which is the base for many applications for modding today, serenity, IFP's, UberTools the list goes on. As his signature describes, Iron_Forge, essentially created modding. Without him modding would never have really kicked off at all.
Grenadiac:
The creator and host of halomods. He runs this website and is one of the premier founders of Prometheus as well as the developer of Sparkedit - an inspiration for the entire community, Many Halo 2 map viewing applications were based off of sparkedit in either design and/or fucntionality. While Grenadiac may not be known for modding Halo 2 publicly, his contributions to Halo 1 led to Halo 2 modding becoming what it is today.
MonoxcideC::
He is one of the premier founders of Prometheus as well as the developer of HMT. A Halo 1 App. that source was used for some infamous Halo 2 apps such as DotHalo.
The Swamp Fox:
The only member of The fantastic 6 to create a more than one halo 2 mod. Swamp fox created such mods as descension, induction and gate, each of which showed never before seen things like bsp conversion & meta addition. the application ADI was and still is an excellent modding program.
XIU, Dark Neo & D3fault_dot_Xbe:
these guys combined their efforts to make one of the first applications for Halo 2 modding: Ch2R. The application came with a plethora of features all bundled in one which some applications still do not properly feature today, which is why I still find myself opening up Ch2r to for a variety of features. It evolved continually over time until its final public release of 0.9.3.
Farklem:
Farklem also created a featured filled application in the early days of modding. This application was popular with a lot of modders for its user friendliness, ease of use and its feature count. It had inbuilt support for both Halo 1 and Halo2 and Thanks to Farklem, many people were able to get into halo modding and create full mods.
Mr Murder:
My friend, my rival. Those aren't the reason he's on the list. The real reason of course is the timeless, classic mods that he has made. Undeadlong, The Hive and Nightwinder, all were moved into Oustanding within hours of being released. Mr Murder puts love behind his mods and it shows, with balanced, lag free, fully changed mods which are still great to play to this day, regardless of the first two being 2 years old.
Aequitas:
Released Cassiopeia, a mod which is regarded by many to be one of the best mods ever created. With new and innovative visual effects such as night visiuon and flashlight attatchments, aswell as using an ODST as a playable character, Black Ops: Cassiopeia was a balanced and fun mod for all. The bitmap specialist. this awesome member of TF6 has been responsible for UberBitmTool, UberScreenShotTool and UberLightmapTool. These applications made modding much easier and quicker and of course, with the coding prowess that Aequitas has, was bug free, which didn't corrupt map files like other similar applications that were around.
TJC2k4:
Tjc was the author of the revolutionary application Insolence. Prior to this release, only technical geniuses were able edit tags and add meta from other levels. Insolence made modding simple, with great drag and drop functionality, one was able to create a feature packed mod in a few hours with little effort required. Unfortunately, tjc came under a lot of scrutiny with people creating improper maps or thinking insolence was the answer to all life's problems and as a result, blamed tjc for not doing so. Tjc also was the greatest host to Mod of the Month ever, with great organization rules and rewards it was truly a shame when he left and the circumstances.
Greennc:
This man was a creative machine. Greennc is responsible for an incredible amount of skins, many of which are in the Outstanding section. Greennc is in the HoF by making skins an art form. The skins not only changed the look of a level but made the level feel like an all new map to play on.
The Tycko Man:
Where to start? The Tycko Man is in the HoF because of his great contribution to plugins and AI. The mod Epic Battle, in the outstanding section was the first real demonstration of what a single player ai mod is capable of, making it fun frantic and epic in scale. 1337 meteors
xbox7887:
xbox7887 is a crazy college alcoh--...xbox7887 is in the HoF because of his outstanding contribution to halo 2 modding. He was responsible for mapping out a lot of plugins and helping tycko with the research in AI. xbox7887 is probably best known for his trainers. The early halo 2 3p trainers were obviously a small taste for what later became yelo, which added numerous features to halo 2 such as AI (cred: Kornman) and making halo photography mainstream.
Kornman:
Kornman, TONS of research with his reverse engineering ways. Without him we would still be stuck in many places, I think he is one of the people here that know most about the engine, he helped xbox7887 with a lot as well.
Pokecancer:
Pokecancer made h2x, Darkmatter, h2core/h2g, andEntity. I don't think there is a mod out there today that doesn't use one of those apps. You wouldn't believe how much time he put into those apps and research for them. He has been a major contributer to the community and he is great for it.
Soldier of Light:
Soldier Of Light figured out scripting in Halo 2 and that is a huge discovery I mean he opened up a new branch of modding for everyone. He was also responsible for Jmad tags research, Objectives/teleporters research, a lot of info on multiplayer items (netgame equipment) And published the information on H2 scripting, along with the first and as far as I can see only tools for it.
Shade45:
In the beginning, this guy released countless applications which helped people out immensely as they were not in any other application at the time (later practically all were integrated into entity). Shade45 later led the way for public BSP conversion research, being able to convert the beloved singleplayershared bsp. This research was later integrated into entity and bsp conversions became much more mainstream. Shade also was the main developer of the Entity Ultimate Editions which built greatly upon Pokecaner's and Anthony's original version. One thing that would have earned Shade's spot in the hall of fame alone was the how he fixed the major problem of non system link issues with the [goof] tag and later built into Entity.
-Detox-:
Detox was a community helper aswell as a great programmer. Helping many members become modders with onsite help and detailed tutorials. His applications streamlined what was once complicated or unknown to many, such as the weather, water and TDTL tools.
Trulife:
After the release of Yelo with the feature of AI in multiplayer, Trulife stepped up and got the community together to get AI working properly in MP. A lot of animation swapping and chunk adding later showed that AI could actually be used in MP with some (if not all on some levels) functionality. This coupled with Trulife's array of both AI mods in Single player and Multiplayer reserves him a place in the Hall of Fame.
Anthony:
Whilst it doesn't appear to be too commonly known, Anthony was a great help with the amazing applications of recent times, Entity, H2Guerilla and h2core. Possessing the skill to help out pokecancer with the bsp veiwer, the lightmap changer and practically making H2Guerrilla by himself, it is clear that Anthony has helped the community in many ways.
xHeadshotMastax:
How can one sum this man up in just a small paragraph? xHeadshotMastax started off with a few small scaled mods which caught the eyes of many, he soon started pumping out many mods of outstanding quality. Each map provided a new playground to toy with or new weapons to kill with. xHeadshotMastax's dedication to modding was unmatched and within the shortish time he was here, created 5 outstanding mods.
The Flying Dutchmen/Smacktalker:
A passionate modder. Created near flawless SBSP conversions when they would normally result in freezing. While a mappack generally isn't necessarily noteworthy, the Killtrocity mappacks 1 and 2 (created by Smacktalker and xHeadshotmastax) were amazing due to how they spread across the global modding community for its simplicity to install and combining all the best mods ever created for all to play makes his hall of fame membership worthy.
Doorm4n:
Always seemed to have a new way of thinking with his mods. The underground arena is a demonstration of that, creating a whole new battle ground using machs was something that was not thought of previously. The Dawn of Warfare was a huge new mod, with system link enabled combined all the new developments at the time such as model injection. These mods paved the way for what later came to be known as mach mods.
Northy:
Like Mr Murder, Northy isn't on this list for quantity, but for quality. Northy's earlier mods combined creativity fun and balance. The crazy rockets whilst being a simple swap was great fun. Northy's Hang'em Highway was one of the most under appreciated mods created. Play it.
ScottyGEE:
Been around since the beginning. ScottyGEE has created many outstanding mods from Moon stronghold his first mod, to the Biohazard series, also sharing Mr Murder's and Northy's philosophy on creative, balanced, fun and lag free gameplay. ScottyGEE has also been very community based, with mods like Project ORSM, frequent skinning competitions and skins to help encourage skinning and always willing to lend a hand when asked for. A combination of these factors has landed ScottyGEE with a spot in the Hall of Fame.
JesseCuster:
Often paired with xHeadshotmastax, JesseCuster or JC has earned his place in the Halo modding by evolving the way machs mods were made. Creating entire new levels out of various machines from throughout campaign and positioning them in ways that made a new impression on how Halo 2 games were played.
Zenon:
Zenon was a fun loving modder who first made an appearance with the iconic Zentation, his first mod. This mod created a totally new feel to Ascension and showcased what a fun mod should be like. This mod, combined with Zenon's happy attitude led many people to start modding. Zenon's future mods were of outstanding quality and also showcased his new invention, Active Scenery, creating the illusion of moving objects in game such as pelicans flying over the battlefield.
T Beezie:
T Beezie filled the void left by TheTyckoMan's Epic battle mod; creating countless AI mods which pushed players to their limits with numerous and more challenging AI. Moving on from single player, T Beezie began creating AI mods for multiplayer with notable mentions including Night Ops: MP with AI zones and AI War: Containment
Low8:
Who doesn't remember Low8? The alleged evil person that hacked the Team DeFiance website and stole code from High6.Only to be wrongfully convicted. Low8 earns his place in the Hall of Fame by ridding Halomods of the dreaded 60MB ppf patches by releasing SPPF, a super PPF tool designed around halo's structure, not just a full file comparison.
GlitchyGlitchyGuardian:
Some may look back to glitchy with a furrowed brow for having an app that created large PPF files. However, Glitchy earns his place in the Hall because of his contribution to many small apps to the community. These apps such as the spawn placement (released way before darkmatter, before 3d rendering was around), sized PPF, model resize and chunk adder. Glitchy allowed many new kinds of mods to be created and this is a tribute to that.
Pyroman31:
Another great modder for the list. Pyroman was another one who created consistently good mods the most notable of which were The Cable Room, one of the first new level battlegrounds made from machines and Dead in the Water (and its chainsaw ;p). His happy attitude and sense of humor was demonstrated in Snowed Out. Pyroman has been around for a long time and his attitude and skill earns him a spot in the Hall of Fame.
Jefff:
Jefff did a lot of work behind the scenes. Creating the first 3d map viewer called flame edit (based around spark edit) and his gametype editor named Sav3r.
Turk645:
An innovator. Modifying halo maps in ways that had not been seen before. Ragdolls, Monster truck hogs, Flaming skull characters, TDTL editing. One of the most notable creations from Turk became his JMAD modifications, creating different poses for both gameplay and for humerous purposes. An inspiration to many.
I have only listed a few, because otherwise, I'd be typing for hours. These people were a great inspiration and help to me and the list would never be complete without them.
Here comes your part. Who helped you or the community greatly in the modding world? Who made mods that are truly great? Does anyone inspire you greatly when you mod?
If names come into your head when you answer these questions, then please post them here and a reason for why and I'll add them to the list provided they are legitimate. and thanks for your contribution.
I hope we can complete this list

yea you somehow managed to forget pokecancer and kornman
Pokecancer made h2x, Darkmatter, h2core/h2g, and Entity. I don't think there is a mod out there today that doesn't use one of those apps. You wouldn't believe how much time he put into those apps and research for them, I know from helping him with 3 out of those 5.
so if Aequitas gets in there because of a few bitmap tools that don't really do too much.. then Pokecancer is a must have on that list
and Kornman, TONS of research much of it not released. but without him we would still be stuck in many places, I think he is one of the people here that know most about the engine, he helped xbox7887 with a lot as well (dang there was to much to say about him so ill stop there )

You can say I'm biased to deltaHalo members, but I genuinely do feel that most of them are excellent modders, and easily deserve to be recognised for their achievements.
