loading issue

My xbox isn't loading my Halo 2 disc outside of the soft mod. When its on I can load the game but when I turn the soft mod off, it doesn't read it. It actually gives me the "invalid media type" message...its a semi-new disc, one little scratch, maybe. So if anyone has an answer for my prejudice xbox please let me know.
