mainmenu skinning

how do i get the entire mainmenu skinned? ive tried as much as i could, but there is still stuff i cant get, especially in the quick settings area. I think it is that Y8 and X8R8G8B8 stuff, and some others too. how can i get this stuff skinned, and where is it?

At the time being, you can't skin every bitmap in the main menu. Some problem involving swizzling or something of the sort, I'm not too sure.

You can edit the colours of some of these bitmaps, by Hex editing. Neodos has a nice tutorial here somewhere, search for it if you're interested. :wink:


Also, change your signature. I'm sure there's a rule of sorts against that...

While we are talking about the mainmenu, anyone know how to change text? Or how to use different fonts? =P

Because the fonts in the Fonts folder arent .rtf IIRC.

.rtf? Isn't that Rich Text Format? Fonts aren't going to be in a text format, they'll be font or image formats like .ttf.

and also, how did killtrocity 2 get their mainmenu!??! its perfect!!! i didnt see hardly a thing of blue in it!

i erased the egor effects, im talking about like everywhere, like in the quick settings menu before a game starts, i dont know how to change that color, but they did it!

Yes you can get rid of the blue filter as well as do a few other things in my Menu Menu Menu app. Also i am working on making all bitmap types used in halo2 extractable, so just hang in there :wink:

Hex edit the main menu to change the text. (as in what it says). You can go through each bitmap and extract, edit, and inject. It's time consuming but fun.

Here is a little bit of information that I posted a long time ago over at halomaps.
There should be an area in the bitmaps tags where it says campaign00 on through abuncha numbers then comes the multiplayer. Pass those up right after that should be bitmaps called (bl_01, bl_02 and so on). Those are images you gotta color over. There are more down the line of bitmaps as well just preview them and you'll see which ones need to be edited. They pretty much all look like the bitmaps that bl_01 and so on are like.
lol k...wow it's been awhile since i've done this. Ok first in dothalo when u see the like preview of the bitmap at the bottom of that window there should be a extract feature and inject feature. So that's where u take out and put in. Now this is the tricky part. The easiest way i found out how to properly save the bitmap is this. Right before u extract the bitmap yur gonna color on. Look at that same window but above the picture. It will say dxt2, dxt5, dx3... on and on. So now after u color over or ontop of the picture when u go to save the bitmap. Make sure u save it as it was stated in dothalo. When i mean color over or ontop of i mean like lightly shade a color over the bitmap. Make it so it's not so much a full blunt color where it'll just make the whole picture yellow or something but enough to accent the original picture with a diff color. If u want to make the bitmap black pick a grey or dark dark color and just shade right over the bitmap. Dont worry about the blackness in the background that isnt used. But just incase i usually just colored over the whole entire bitmap just to make sure it's all gravy. If yur still needing more help just lemme know on AIM and i'll be glad to help.

And, yeah i found a way to change the text font type, just swaping the font type by another wich exist on halo 2, the size too, color, displacing bitmaps,text and buttons of the UI and more stuff.

I posted a plugin on haloplugins.

But i think am going to post a new tutorial about how to do that to explain a bit better some things wich you can't understand just reading the meta.

nice......but how could i make it golden, or at least yellow, i am trying to make a golden mainmenu and also, i just want to tint it golden, so that i can still see whatever it is i want to edit, and one more thing, ITS JUST TOO CONFUSING!!!! I DONT UNDERSTAND!!!!!!!!! and besides, what hex editor is that?! i have a different one, but it was free

I was writing out a reply, but I clicked the link in your sig in another tab and I had to exit FireFox because the stupid browser doesn't let you disable Javascript while an alert box is open...

I did too, but it opened up about 20 new tabs, and each of them seemed to be doing the same alert script, and the script started lagging and it took about 5 seconds for it to register each alert box to go away...
