If you go online with modified maps, you will be banned. Period.

If you go online using a trainer you will not only be banned from halo2 matchmaking but Microsoft will ban you from xbox live altogether.

Your better off getting a cheap Used xbox at gamestop.
One for modding, and one for XBL.

Or you can just mod your xbox properly with a switch for retail.

well if you replace the harddrive maps (like gemini and warlock) and have your friend do it in exactly the same manner i cant tink of any reason y it wouldent work with the softmod switched off. I dont think xbl would be able to detect somthing like that anyway.
(haven tried it tho, i cant say you wouldent be banned)

You don't need to buy a seconded xbox. You can do both safely on the same xbox.
I have XBL and mod halo 2 on the same xbox (not at the same time of course).
You can keep halo2 on your HDD for modded maps and NEVER touch the TDATA maps and you don't have to worry about XBL complications.
You don't even have to shut off or un-install the softmod.

And as stated above, trainers/modded maps on XBL = BAN

Yea, I know, it sucks that you cant take pictures online, because I would definitely use them for my clan and team. However, you can still use XBC and/or Xlink Kai with the trainer.

check your firewall settings and also your router may need ports opening for XBC

i think you only get banned from XBL for using mods in matchmaking, not sure about custom games... i dont think they bother watching them, but still, not really advisable to test it out for me and risk getting banned
