High Resolution Bumpmaps + Bitmaps + Detailmaps?

i need some intense help on these things, if i want to finish making a decent mod.
hell, i dont even know what a detail map is.
basically, im looking for somebody who will help me learn about putting high res in a bitmap, changing the bumpmaps, and what is a detail map
