question about a tutorial

I'm having some trouble with the "adding new 'things' to a map only using entity" tutorial. When I get to the part to clone chunks for the netgame equipment. I type in the number I want, ie 5, for the battle rifle (1), but when I go to selet the newly cloned itmc's there not listed. Another thing I thought was wierd is when the tut said to save, is it supposed to save as a meta or just save in general?
