Wanna help?

My basic purpose here is to make an energy sword (preferrably orange or yellow) and have flame protrude from the handle.
Ultimately, what I'm wanting to do is make a mod to go with the ever-so-wonderful flaming skull Spartan.
1. I do not know how to change the color of the energy sword
2. I do not know how to make fire come from the handle
Since I am nowhere near a professional modder, step-by-step instructions would be lovely, and quite dearly appreciated, or maybe even a patch for any map that has one, or something similar.
In advance, I'd like to go ahead and say thanks for the help, if anyone can give me any. As I said, specific instructions would be highly appreciated.
And, as it should be, ALL DUE CREDIT will be given on any mods featuring this sword that I make. I can speak only for myself and not for other modders who get ahold of the tag, but I can hope that they will do the same.
Thanks!

well i dont know but try this to make flames to come out handle. Try to add an attachment in the mode tag of the energy sword with entity and attach the scen of flames from a sp map. In insolence try editing the cords of the flame to whear the handle is. For the color of the blade try some shader swaps. That is what i would do but don't know if it would work

. you can try it though.

Thank you both for trying to help, but as I said, I hold little experience of modding, so it would be really great if you could explain in more detail how I could go about doing this! Thanks!

Alas... there's no tutorial for everything. But it makes me wonder... where do these people think these tutorials come from? People experimented, and you should, too.

Trust me, DarkMetal, I do experiment, but it rarely gets me far, because my understanding of the game's structure is slim. I have tried to do this, but have gotten myself nowhere but a locked up Xbox. I do understand how the mods work when people explain them, but I don't understand how they did these wonderful things.
I do agree with you when you say that you wonder where people think that tutorials come from, but what I am asking is if someone could figure out how to do this and would be so kind as to enlighten me on these techniques. I am also sure that other people would love to see such a modification to the Energy Sword.
Thanks.

I've made a red sword before.Start up Dothalo and go to the Bitm folder, and scroll down to objects\weapons\melee\energy_blade\bitmaps\energy_blade.
If you do not have the raw data editor, you need to bring up the window. Once you get the window, click extract and minimize dothalo. Open up your photoshop and open the file that you extracted from dothalo with it. Get a paintbrush and lower the opacity to like 60 or something and color over the bottom which has the sword side on it. Click save and a window should pop up, saying what file type to save it as. Bring up photoshop and look in the raw data editor. It should say either Dxt1, Dxt2-Dxt3, Dxt4-Dxt5.
Go back to photoshop, and save it as whatever Dxt it was. Once it finishes saving, go back to dothalo and inject the dds texture you just created.
Do the same thing to the objects\weapons\melee\energy_blade\bitmaps\blade_shield_mask

Okay, sounds cool. Thank you. So, by doing this method, would I be able to, say, put a flame design over the blade, or does the entire thing have to be a single color?

Well, I tried what you said and it didn't work. Any suggestions?

well if you want to add a flame effect to the sword you can use the same techneque used to add a flame to the skull. Just take the small flame from elengation and attach it to the hlmt of the sword.

I do thank you a lot for your help, but as I said, I am not highly experienced.
"Just take the small flame from elengation and attach it to the hlmt of the sword. "
How would I add something to the HLMT tag? And what is the tag for the flame in Elongation?
I don't mean to seem like I'm asking a whole lot, but I really do appreciate everyone's help. I'd like to make this sword, because I think it would be cool to go along with the flaming skull Spartan (aka Ghost Rider), and all of your help is what I desperately need. So once again, thank you.

Sorry for the double-post, but I needed to bump this since Chronox's method didn't seem to work and turk645 didn't tell me how to do what he suggested.
Any more ideas?

the name of the flame is medium flame it is and effect, also you were right about attaching it to the HLMT. Just clone the warthog's attachment chunk then add it to the hlmt of the sword, then change it from vehicle turret to effect medium flame. all this can be done in entity go find the full guide to entity fo further assistence

I found:
effects\scenery\fires\fire_basic_medium
effects\scenery\fires\fire_basic_small
Which one do I want?
Also, how do I clone a Warthog's attachment chunk and add it to the [hlmt] of the sword, and how to I change it from the turret to the effect? I copied it using Insolence and plan to do the editing with DotHalo (since I don't trust the instability of Entity, as it is still in Alpha).
Thanks.

(Sorry for the double-post)
Milyardo was kind enough to help me through AIM. Thank you VERY much, Milyardo.
Much to my luck, after following what he did step by step, I continuously got broken idents, and it somehow gave me a different offset each time. I followed him exactly, and I even used the exact copy of Entity that he had.
At this point, I pretty much hate Halo 2 (not really, but I'd like to pretend that I do).
I know that I'm asking a LOT, but is there, by chance, someone that I could get to make this for me? I'm beyond frustrated at Entity as it is, and don't know my way around it enough to try other methods. I would LOVE if someone would be so kind as to make the blade, put it on Zanzibar, and give me a patch. I would be BEYOND grateful, and would forever praise you.
Milyardo, once again, THANK YOU. Even if I get someone to make this for me, you're definately getting a great bit of credit here for being kind enough to help.
