PPF Trouble

Everytime I try to apply a ppf to a map or inject data like skies, models, etc, I will get a "failed to load map" message. What is happening and how do I fix it?

I have update 1.2 (I've been told I should still be able to get them to work with this)
and YES I DO resign with dothalo or CSR depending on whether it is an old or new map.

I do NOT hexedit.
I REPLACE unmodded maps with modded ones corresponding to the map (delete headlong & replace with modded headlong)

WTF IS WRONG??

Do you mean CMR? What did you do to the Maps?

tried to do the "dawnofwarfare.ppf" for containment "exodus.ppf" for zanzibar, and tried to import a new sky for headlong.
used CMR for containment and dothalo/insolence for the others.
I think it may have something to do with me getting mimisis and messing around with the 1.2 update

PPFs won't work with maps that are already modded. Put your original map onto your Xbox and see if it still has the 'Failed to load map', it might now be because your map is modded. And somtimes when you add stuff to maps, it may take a long time to load, so just wait. It shoudln't fail to load map all the time, you probably do things wrong or something.

No, each time I do it they are with clean maps, I have a whole folder of clean, unmodded maps for halo that I copy to a differnt folder, and THEN mod. and yes, when I return the unmodified maps, they work

Ok, that means you're screwing something up with your map so that Halo 2 won't rcognize it. Tell me EXACTLY what you did (or do a new mod and see if you screw something up) and i'll take a look.

1. Open dothalo
2. [open map] zanzibar.map (copied from clean file)
3. [apply PPF patch] exodusv1.ppf [apply]
4. wait
5. hit [ok] (1481812 changes)
6. [fix encryption] [ok]
7. [close map]
8. [exit]
9. open Flash FXP
10. connect to xbox
11. go to G\games\halo2\maps\
12. delete zanzibar.map
13. FTP over the modded zanzibar.map
14. wait
15. close FTP and check map on the xbox
16. get "failed to load map"

I see, you're not suppose to delete the map, your just suppose to overright it!!! Well, I can see your problem now, you delete the maps in your Halo 2 maps directory then move them over. Don't delete the maps, just overright them. Doesn't matter what the case, you can add maps to your maps folder, but not delete them. I'm not quite sure how to fix your problem. Try copying Halo 2 back onto your HDD again and don't delete your maps this time!

wait wait wait. in my "handmodded" maps i always delete the map prior to ftp'ing it over, and as long as i dont import, inject, or ppf it works! could it really be that simple? seems kinda weird to me.

whatever, Ill try it

I haven't heard of anyone who deletes their maps before transferring them over. Maby it doesn't work now becouse of the 1.1 (there is no 1.2) auto update.

yeah there is a 1.2 update, the front screen just doesn't show it because apparently, it wasn't really an update. while 1.1 changed properties of guns and melee damage, 1.2 made maps harder to modify. get mimisis and go to like config and it will say your patch version. mine says 1.2 (bug-fix)

What are you talking about, mimisis, what is it and where can I get it. And if there is a 1.2 update and all it does it make maps harder to mod, then what's the point of having it? Why not just disable it?

you can get it at "the usual places"
and the 1.2 patch is integrated with the new maps, so removing it will remove the maps

Still dont work

As soon as I got up today, I FTP'ed a clean copy of zanzibar from my newly-ripped copy of halo 2, and did the above - except this time, I overwrote the clean zanzibar with the exodus one. Went over to check it, and about 5 min after hitting start game, i got a "failed to load" message. AGAIN

I think my TDATA area is messed up, because I did some wierd crap in the "manage autoupdates" section of that when I was trying to remove the 1.2 (cheat-fix) patch

Also, this ONLY happens when I inject skies, skins, models, etc... and I WAS able to get one ppf called "dawn of warfare" to work ONCE, then it started to give a "failed to load" message

Please don't double post. Any I might just have another solution for you. You could delete Halo 2 off your Xbox (not through FTP) then delete the file with all the new Halo 2 map/updates (it's like 0046 somthing file) Only do this thourh gif you have Halo 2 on a CD or backed up onto your computer. And only Delete all the updates if you have it on a CD or backed up onto your computer too. Then, once you have it all deleted, copid Halo 2 back onto your Xbox, and only Halo 2, no updates or anything. Then try it again. Then, try putting the updates back on and see if it still works, if it doesn't. Then delete the updates again and just add the new maps to the main menu, try that, if you want.

Im, gonna try to use CMR to resign the map to it's original (unmodded) value. wish luck, me!

Ummm, ok, though i'm pretty sure that won't work.

It's probably because of the 1.2 update or something.
