Projectiles out of projectiles

Now what i'm asking is how do you make something like a grenade throw out more grenades when it blows up or something. And don't tell me it can't be done because i've seen it on a mod for burial mounds and it was really cool. It did this, you throw a plasma and once it blows up, another one shoots up really high then falls and blows up spewing about 3 more plasmas out. This was really cool and i would liek to do something like this.
