Yeah they've doing this for a few months and your just now mad? Modding on XBL is the reason I don't play it much anymore. Serioulsy...its a number. At least they're sytarting to ban standbyers and bridgers, that will help a little.
well, i canceled my XBL subscription a few months ago, because fuck microsoft, they are not getting another cent off me.. (Windows fucked up and i had to format)
and i was modded against a LOT back then when i had my gamertag, but never on the orignal maps, so this is the first ive seen of such annoyance.
There was a program made a while ago that allowed people to play games from their hard drive on xbox live. It would patch the kernel as the game was booting and pretty much halt M$ from finding out that the box was modded. Microsoft however fixed this by making Xbox Live check the hash on the default.xbe.
My only conclusion would be either a modified "autoupdate" default.xbe in the TDATA folder or that they simply connected to live with their chip enabled for a short time, booting up a disc with modded maps.
It sickens me that people actually go this far just for a game.

its hotswappable with burnt discs, so, that would be like, burn a disc with modded maps on it, load H2 on the 360 then hotswap to the burnt disc, wala, online with mods... i hope microsoft fixes that crap.
people who do this kind of crap piss me off. i hope he gets banned and have his xbox die on him.
The firmware hack was originally discovered for the original Xbox (before the 360 hack was discovered). It's possible that it's been leaked. Using that, a modder could completely bypass all of XBL's current security checks.

Leaked it to the community? The only thing you even need to know is the fw hack. The rest is common sense.
When I first heard of the firmware hack, my first though was "Sweet. Back-ups." My second thought was "....uh-oh."
The firmware hack can only be used to play backups. So no, you can't create an identical backup disc if you mod it obviously. You guys should put a little more research into these things before you make assumptions...
Also, from what I remember, under certain circumstances, Xbox Live doesn't ban your xbox right away if it detects a modified bios if you're booting an xbox disc. It will get you pretty quick though.

I believe I read somewhere that you have to have an exact copy for the burned game to work on live. Anywho, there is indeed a way to play old modded maps on live and I doubt it can be caught. I will not mention it though because I don't really support ya know... the cheating thing.
PS: Frankie from bungie said that the modding community is higher than cheating in his own words. Schweet!!!

To wield such power and NOT use it for evil. There's something to say about that.
I wasn't aware of that particular stipulation of the FW hack, Exile. From what I know of xbox security, the disc needs to be authenticated as an actual xbox disc. The .xbe needs to have a valid MS signature. After that, I had thought that the .xbe did any further security checking (such as checking the signature on halo 2 maps). If indeed, you cannot put modded maps onto an otherwise unmodified burned Halo 2 disc, what exactly is it that stops you? Here I was thinking it would only be a matter of time before our 360 friends could play mods like the rest of us (though there were the Live implications to go along with that).
