How do you inject models?

I know you can inject models because I've seen and played mods with weird models in halo 2 but I don't know how, what program and plug-in do you use? And I heard you can do it with darkmatter but when I tried I could find a export button which version of dark matter do you use and what plug-in because I can only find DMbroken and I’m a noob.
