halo 2 ripping to Hardisk???

Do i have to copy halo 2 to my xbox or can i just copy the map i wont to mod and ftp it to my pc

the whole disk on your xbox, then ftp the map u want to mod to your pc, mod it, sign it, transfer it back to the halo2 maps folder on you box, then run the game of the hdd not the disk

But i can't I keep getting the an error message on my box it says
An error occured while copying "D"
Error code: 112
Im using unleash x if anyone has any ideas. I also deleted as much i as i possably can with out doing anything to my box.
