*.map to *.3ds

I am a total weasel when it comes to modding/cracking itself, but I am very proficient in 3d modeling with 3ds max. I had a friend come down and extract all the *.map files from my copy of Halo II for me, but he only mods mass wieghts and stuff, so he has no idea how to translate the halo II *.map files to *.obj, *.3ds, or anything supported by 3ds max.
could anyone help me in that regard? I've torn the internet to pieces (not counting the warez side of things) trying to find something that might help me, but everyone assumes that because I have gotten the files on my computer, I am haxx0r enough to get them in 3ds max.
