AI Elite freeze (halo2)

AI Elite freeze (halo2)

OK here's the deal:

On Coag I've got several working AI squads, I've got ODST's, marines, grunts and hunters all working fine. However whenever I try to add a squad of elites my map fails to load for some reason (it freezes on startup on the black screen).

Does anyone have an idea on what could be wrong and how to fix it (if possible without having to redo everything :p)?

I nulled out all the udlg's so that can't be the problem. I also tried spawning some elites on beavercreek and I got that working...

Hmm I really don't have a clue what it could be =(

did u copy over char. and dont uses elite_mp it wont work

yup I used insolence to copy over the elite/ai/whatever and that automatically brought over the bipd and all I needed. I worked analogous to my grunts and hunters. Do you guys think that sometimes insolence messes up? I used the same char in beavercreek and there it worked...
I didn't do anything with the elite_mp.

Does the AI platoon / squad types make a difference also?

Use entity. But first try swapping the foot in the bipd tag to masterchief's foot tag ;)

Platoon and squad types MAY make a difference.

I'll give the foot swap a try, I used insolence cause in the past transferring the char tags with entity corrupted my map xD
Is there a way to keep in all the other AI I got in already, while renewing the elite char tag?

UPDATE: I tried the footswap but it still hangs on black screen unfortunately, in search of some salvation I decided I'd try and get some jackals in. This works partially, they can get shot and all but whenever they die the game freezes. I nulled out the 3 udlg's and the shield depletion effect. I'm sorry I hate to be a nag like this xD

I'm gonna try and get a new elite char (using entity ;) ), I'll see if I can get that working and after that it's the jackals turn! Do you guys know what could be causing the jackal problem?

PS: I'd like to thank you guys for all the help and suggestions so far, I really appreciate it! :)

just copy the elte chunk in the characters reflexive in the sp map then add it to your characters refleive in your mp map. it will keep are that AI there and add the elite

Time freeze the game with yelo at the very second it starts. If you manage this, fly around and look for your elites. Most likely they have spawned. Now unfreeze and refreeze as fast as you can. Do that a few times and yo umay notcie them begin to disappear. After a few seconds the game will completely freeze. This could be caused by a faulty biped, even if it loads when you play as it. Atleast happend to me..

Hmm the problem is that I can't really start the game, it freezes imediately in the menu screen (I didn't get a chance to freeze with yelo). But the faulty bipd does seem possible, I'll try and replace that one with a fresh one =D

PS: what do you guys think about the jackal problem? Is it a known issue? For now I just raised the jackal's health so he can't die... then it all works but it's not fair for the marines :(

Update: bipd swap didn't change anything (I did parsed and recursive and replaced the bipd with the elite bipd from a different SP map). I do remember however that initially on beavercreek my xbox froze too. I remember messing around with the AI settings (changing the platoon I think) and after a very long time I got the map to load correctly. I then transferred that squad and squad type over to Coag and readjusted the spawn coords and such but I still got the freezing!

Hmm I guess I'll just have to keep fiddling with those settings until I finally get one to work on coag...
So darn strange that every other Char does work (except the dead jackall).

OK I worked around the problem by replacing the jackal hlmt with the elite one, this both solved the jackal freeze when dead problem and the fact I didn't have elites!

There's just one minor detail I'd like to get straight, you see, when my new elites shoot their guns you can't see the gun because he's actually a jackal, how can I correct this little detail?

Oh and for some reason they spawn as honor guards...do you guys know why and how I can get normal ones like this?

i would just start over, cause now you have more problems. there is a small tut that im working on. i know you know how to do AI cause you have elites in but you will probaly get more problems once you fix the ones you have. so i would just get a clean map and try this. it never failed me befor. :D

How to Get Elites in MP

1) copy the char tag of the character you want(in this case elites) through insolence.

2) open up your map in entity, then go to objects\characters\elite\elite in the hlmt tag. Not the elite_mp but the other elite you just transfered. then in the refrence editor right click dispay ->idents. now, null all the uldg tags.

3) open up you single player map too then go to the scenarios tag (the scnr tag) on bolth you SP and your MP map. then from the single player map clone the folowing chunks:

-weapon pallet
-vehicle pallet
-bipd pallet
-characters
-AI types
-AI squads

Once done go to meta tools then metta editor (still in the sncr tag).

then you can edit all you AI squads and things.

Alright it pains me to say this, but I'm gonna start all over again! :(

I did it the way you just describer, but I think something just went horribly wrong with some transferring...

Oh well it's a learning experienxe I guess :D
I'd just like to thank everybody who tried to help me out! You guys are fantastic coaches!
