Ok, so I was thinking of going all "legos" and building a base out of machs, scens, and whatever else would go together to make a cool base. I plan on this being an ambitious freakin' map.
Now I've heard about adding chunks and how they mess up system link, but I've never really been able to get a clear understanding of just what is bad for slc and what fixes it. I also want to have a veritable fleet of flying vehicles for each side, which means duplicating the banshee two or three times and giving them diff hlmts and weapons and whatnot. I also just heard that merely injecting a longsword into a map can bust its slc (though he might've been talking about making incompatible with an UNmodded map).
So my question is: what can I get away with and still keep slc? How do I go about doing it? Can I have six or seven different machs and a handful of scenery items added to a map and spawn each several times in a map? Can I duplicate things: banshees, weapons, projectiles, without screwing everything up? Can I bring in a matte painting? Shaders from other maps? Throw in some active scenery? (Not ships flying by--got much cooler things planned than that).

i tried adding about 10 machs to a map once but it froze when i loaded it up, however that may have been down to the different machs intersecting with each other.

as for sl compatability i thought someone released a patch for that something to do with a goof tag? and you just registered anything added to the map in it...

Where is that? Where do I go to become an expert on slc?
[edit] It seems that some of my pm's aren't going through, so if a certain someone named "Doom2" reads this post, I just wanna' let you know that I agreed to your terms and tried pm'ing you like three times, but they never showed up in my sent box.

:P Beef forgot to unban me :P Check your pm inbox for a explanation on everything and I answered your terms :P .

Ontopic, shade45 released a Easy Fix slc patch, you apply it to your map before you start so if you drag over the longsword model you open the goof tag with the pluging that comes with the patch and you go to New resources and click tag type, change it to hlmt, and then find the longsword hlmt in the hlmt tag and save it, it should then be slc.

Yeah, I probably shoulda' searched a bit more before I asked. I'd heard a bit here and there, but never done a full-fledged search. Just to make sure I understand completely, though, I will need to link anything I copy as well, correct? Like, I have 3 flying vehicles, so when I duplicate the banshee, I have to link those, too?

These are the only tag types that will break system link

biped
bloc
ctrl
eqip
garb
jpt!
mach
proj
scen
ssce
vehi
weap

Any other tag can be added to the map and not have to be referenced. And yes if the tag you duplicated is one of the above tags you will also have to add it to the New resources.
