There seem to be two types of collision: bullet collision, and character/object collision. An example is v1 of the Sentinel Base mod. If you look out to the side you see some kinda' bridge like structures. Shoot them and there is impact. A rocket will hit it and explode. Yet, if you walk on it, you fall through. Also, there was a place where you could get up high and actually go inside the model. You could fire bullets, rockets, nades, whatever out of it, but they couldn't be fired in, suggesting that the collision is one-sided just like the faces of a model. This seems to suggest it would be easy to edit... if we could figure out how. The other collision, which I believe is under phmo (I've heard that from a few people) will stop you, or vehicles, or other objects from going through. It seems to be two sided (it will block you from both sides).
A lot of that may have been unnecessary to this topic, but I think it helps to understand the stuff.
So what were you trying to do? Add some kind of shield-type thing to the smg? The best suggestion I can think of is to find something in the game somewhere that is at least semi-close to what you made your smg look like, inject your new model over that, and then swap its hlmt with the smg. You might have to alter your design to accomodate it, though, if you can't find something close enough.
