Cable Room was a great idea...

Post by Karlos »

...Now I have another one!

Having played Cable Room, I thought it was a genius SP to MP Conversion and I look forward to many more in the near future!

However, I'm planning on trying to copycat this idea on what I feel could be a really cool SP to MP Conversion that I reckon will also work quite well on CTF as well!

Some of you may think my idea may be too small and not worthwhile as it'll be even smaller than the Cable Room, but I think it'll work wonders with fast and furious gamers...

Ok then, enough talk, here's what I've got in mind below...

Playing as The Arbiter on the forward moving lift on the Quarantine-Zone Level before you get to The Library with you and your fellow Elites fighting the Flood!

This is the bit where your next mission is "Retrieve the Sacred Icon before the Humans."

I think this section (obviously the non-moving bit once it connects to the edge of the Library) would be a fantastic (if a little small) MP map!

Any thoughts? I was thinking, for CTF, place a flag either end of the upper floor at the back and just place the usual weapons around it like on the Cable Room...

I guess it might have a slightly "andACTION" feel to it, but at least it'll have multiple routes, so might be ideal for around 4-8 players...

I was also thinking the same for the 2 lifts that run directly past each other over the sea, on route from the end of Delta Halo to the start of Regret, but I think that probably would be too small, unless you made it the bit in the middle where they both meet up and stop temporarily where you quickly fight a bit of Covenant, but I'm still more up for my original idea, although it'd be nice to have them both working in MP!

If anyone's already working on this (Quarantine Zone / Library) section, then I wish them good luck, as I think it'll turn out to be quite popular in the end!

If not, then I might be seriously tempted in doing so, if it doesn't take too much time and effort of course!

Regards,

Karlos

Edit: Actually, having just played that little section again, it might be even bigger than the Cable Room, although it's quite close I reckon and there's not much in it!

I also just reminded myself that the lift then proceeds to move in an upward direction before moving forward again, and a Phantom is constantly moving around attempting to shoot you!

I'm guessing you all know the moving platform / outdoor lift I mean now!

I know the game does have plenty of them, but I personally think out of all of them, that this'll be the best to convert from SP and play in MP! :)

Well I'm just saying that that wasnt a true sp-mp. This is not to dicourage anyone from makeing their own. This is just spawning a mach and then changing spawns of everything.

Platform...

Post by Karlos »

I like the idea of being able to move over and under the glass in the middle section and trying to be sneaky in finding an indirect route to the back of the Platform, where I might place a flag in both tube sections at either end, leaving a little room to hide behind them, and then grab the flag without anyone seeing! :)

I playtested it on Co-Op with a friend, (obviously not shooting at each other) but just to try and get a feel for it, and whether it'd work or not, and we both agreed that we thought it would, providing we had a few extra people to make it more fun!

It seems to handle half a dozen Elites and Flood quite well falling down from above, at either end, so I think it'd definitely be System Link compatible as well...

Either way, I'm going to try and work on it now, and see what I can come up with!

Fair point, but that's not my intention to make a full conversion of a SP map into a MP one, that's just plain ridiculous and suicidal! LOL...

I was thinking more along the lines of, taking the best parts of them, and then just playing them as a closed off section, similar to that of Cable Room...

I hope I've now cleared that one up! :)

Sorry for any confusion...

It's just a mach. Bungie used a mach so they could make it lean when the arbiter cut the cables.
On a side note, there's a mach for Tarturus' boss platform, but it only moved in a cinema and held still when you actually fought on it, so they didn't give the mach any collision--just used a regular old bsp for the real one.

Yeah, I tried that and it didn't have collision, but I'm still trying to find a way to get some on it...if I do, expect it out.

I suppose you could extract a map's collision and edit it to work, but it wouldn't be easy at all. First, you can't change the number of vertices. Second, there are no faces in the extracted .obj (just vertices) so you'd have to be able to figure out which ones connected to which. So, yeah, possible, but extrememly difficult.
