I like to swtich off between Adi, H2x, Ch2r, insolence... some say dot halo is a good tool, there all pretty good depends on what you need to do, id get them all ... and make sure you have the .net framework...

Best advice: Grab the halo2 white paper + A hex editor and write your own... Thats how I learned most of the stuff i know.
