What is the typical way to package and send someone a custom map? Halo PC its usually ppf files to just patch stuff, but with Halo CE it seems like there would be more like the whole map directory....
What's the scoop with this?
Thanks,

Just compress it in a .rar or .zip file, and upload it to a map server.
I'd say HaloMaps.org is a good site for uploading. Create an account, and select upload map. Once uploaded, the server administration will review that map to check if it has anything bad in it (viruses, leaked map, etc...), and if it's a clean map with nothing offensive or harmful, they will take screeenshots, and add it to the map downloading list. It might take 1-2 days for it to appear, but when it does, it gets downloaded alright.
If you do not want it on a map server webpage (HaloMaps.org, HaloImpulse.com), then just find a good place to upload it, and place the link with screenies!
I'd go with Map Servers, because it's better protected and people come there a lot.

I think he means to send in email, not to post it on a website for the public.
You would need to archive it in a ZIP or RAR as stated above if it's your own map, and, if it's a map that's already out there, give the person a link!
Although, a email site that can send more than 10 MB per message can be hard to find.

Okay thanks,
I wasn't really referring to a hosting location because I already have a web host. I was just curious about which parts needed to be included.
But actually that doesn't sound like a bad idea though. If our mod is far enough along I wouldn't mind submitting to some place that might give it a little more recognition... but that will be a while until its ready for that.

It is pretty easy, just the file size is pretty huge. If it has a lot of custom content, it's a giant file size, because all the data gets packaged into the .map file when it gets compiled. All people have to do is copy the .map file in the compressed archive into the map folder, though, so no pain-staking patching or unpatching or backing up.

Adding onto my buddy's post:
http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm
Download the first one on the list. It is WinRAR, and yes, it is a trial, but it "never" runs out. When the trial expires, you can still use it (great, huh?)
Works well, you can open .rar and .zip with it and also make .rar and .zip
Hope that is a fair elaboration
