converting halo tags to halo ce tags

A while back I was working on a small project in order to convert regular Halo tags into Halo CE tags. The main reason for this was that I wanted to be able to mod single-player maps and have tons of grunts or something. I quit the project a little ways into it mainly because school started and I heard another, more 1337 modder was already making this utility.

So, did it ever come out? How about a halo ce decompiler?

P.S. I looked this up on the forum search and I found a lot of people saying that a decompiler would allow others to "steal" levels. WTF? What would they steal? There are no copyright laws on custom levels and the creators are getting no money. Why would the creators care? Are they afraid somebody might steal their "kudos"? In my opinion, knowlege should be free. For everything that is created, there is somebody out there that can make improvements, so why not give everyone that oportunity?

OMG! Hes alive! I thought you just like, went away, never to return. :P

Yea, SteelixB released one privately. Masters has it, Killa had it, Genocide had it, and a few others had it. Most of them were over at Gearbox.

The problem was that the tag converter could open up custom made CE maps as well, and steal the tags from those. They figured that most map creators wouldn't like their tags that they slaved over for so long being ripped and being put into pos maps. It was also a tag ripper, you could say. And, well... Steelix never released it publically, and for the most part gave it to a few select people, and then left.

I'd say work on one, and try to make it unable to open CE maps. That was the only reason listed why it wasn't released publically, however, I think certain people just couldn't share. Go figure.

But, yea, good to see you back! :D

Yea, no kidding. I wanted to help with Cactus' project seeing as how it'd be something neat to help with, and I wanted Marine, Pelican, and Covenant Dropship tags SO badly...

This is a touchy subject. I would really like to get my hands on one of these but then again, ANYone could steal ANYthing from almost ANY map. And I bet somebody would probably be able to program a "CE Decompliler Protector" To make your maps safe from being ripped from.

Anyways, this would start a whole bunch of bad things. It would encouragw people not to make new material, considering they could just rip it from others. It would stop all creattivity in halo CE.

Is that what we want?!??!

Well, actually, it wouldn't be really bad if you could just convert PC>CE, for like Bipeds. Or Steelix-B should atleast give us the Pelican and Elite :( And C_dropship, Wraith, Engineer, Jackal, Grunt, Marine... I can continue :P

Ya I guess it wouldn't be too bad if we only did that.

But, lets not get too carried away :)

That would be nice :)

Anyways, I'm surprised someone hasn't tried to release something like this yet, to the public. It's weird that nobody would.....

Although, I'm sure, If they posted it here without permission it would probably be a ban....

Actually there not. Why would steel be willing to teach me to convert model, anamations, collision, and physics(i nearly have physics figured out)

But then agian, I can convert everything but the above.

The people with the tag converters are not being mean. If you need any tags, ask them, they will gladly give them to you.

For the most part, they are deciding on whether to release a lot of tags publically.

You sure about that?

Hell, I want almost all of the Bipeds and the undriveable vehicles. You think they would give it to me?

Promtheus will have(\has) a Map decompiler, more powerful and faster than any other decompiler out there :P :)

Not a CE decompiler, right? (to scenario)

ive already asked for an elite biped, and they wouldnt give it....

it would be alot easier of they made the convert not open CE maps, and just release it

It only decompiles Bungie maps. not user created maps

how will it be able to tell =\ cause if it only reads the header of the hex file that can be easly fixed so it can open custom maps to =\

yeah someone should come up with a program that does it! :)

The map decompiles orginal PC and CE maps. It can tell when its orginal or when its not. No, its not based on the header

would it be possible to, with any knowledge of hex/programming, be able to get this thing to decompile CE user created maps?
