HEK... debate, state your opinion, most say it sux.

I not saying i hate it cause i cant use it, i probably could use it, but im not filthy rich so i cant go out and but a $3000 dollar program like 3ds Max, thats why it sux, Gearbox made it a free download but u need to have $3000 dollars to completely use it, i probably could use it, HMT took me 2 or 3 days to completely understand (rebuilding and crap) and Spark Edit, if u look around the site you'll find i wrote a tutorial, i wrote that tut the second i found out how to use it, it just took a little playing around, this HEK, i bet i could completely use it with a little practise like the others if i had $3000 for 3ds Max, but i dont like a lot of other ppl, check the link i put at the begining of this post, go there and see wut they have to say, both sides have excellent points, but most say HEK isnt as good as they though it would be, if u put grenadiac (Spark Edit) and MonoxideC(HMT) together i bet they could make HEK a HELL of a lot better, two ordinary ppl, not of any company with all the technology made EXCELLENT programs in a few weeks and upgraded them just as quickly, Gearbox made a program that is probably great for the ppl that can afford to use it, but most ppl cant, thats why i say HEK isnt as good as i thought it was gonna be.

Well there will be Gmax support soon (because so many people use it) and that is free. There will also be Max6 support soon, and you can get a 30 day trial of that from the Discreet website. And soon (I hope) there will be Maya support (for people like me).

yeah.. I just got it. I've been grounded for a week and i come back and its like WHOA i missed international news. i am SO GLAD that HEK is a more developed prog for real developers like myself. Friggin n00bs can whine and piss around all they want for all i care. Considering this is free, and really didnt have to be given to us, they should just shut the hell up. ALSO
I have found a MAGICAL plug-in that lets me put my AutoCAD2004 3d objs into Sapien... i love it. so easy.

ok u ppl obviously didnt read or understand wut i said, i probably could learn to use it IF I HAD $3000!!! I CANT GO OUT AND BUY 3DS MAX IM NOT A RICH BASTARD LIKE MOST OF U!!! and yes some ppl ARE lazy, but im not one of them, if i could get the 3ds max i would but i cant, try listening... or reading... or w/e, just the point is some ppl hate it cause it was supposed to be downloaded then useable, but it didnt turn out that way, they got ripped off because they didnt know that they had to go out and buy a friggin $3000 program, so if u do have it or can some how get it for free in a full verison good for u, but for use ppl who arnt rich WE CANT!!! and most ppl probably wont go out and spend $3000 just to make maps for a $50 game, i love halo, and i love to mod, but if i had $3000 i probably would spend it on a ATV or dirt bike, mabey even a cheap car. Im very dedicated to modding, but spending $3000 for it isnt that realistic or worth it. so that i why most ppl hate it, cause they got jewed out of a somthing they watied 8 months for!!!

I admire the structural complexity of the software, but it really is not user friendly at all, and although some people actually don't want it to be ( which is beyond my knowledge ), and that brings it down in my book. I vote for It's ok because of the sheer amount of brainpower and preparation you need to have before you can get the full juice of the fruit of the tree of HEK! *phew*

It's not supposed to be user friendly. It's developer tools. Those are for people who know what their doing.

There should be some plugins for other stuff coming out soon i'm sure. Gearbox was not ALLOWED by discreet to release a plugin for GMAX. but i'm sure some clever programer will do just that.
OF course the reason for that is exactly what you stated, trump up artifical demand for software. What is really going to happen, is that people are just going to start pirating the software. Most people will pay $50 for software, most people will not pay $3000. Discreet might actually lose money, as people with little means spread the kno-how to get around paying that much money. Its a shame, but they did it to themselves. How many serious developers, who aren't going to make money doing halo mods, are gonna pay 3000 dollars? I'm sure there will be a few, but most of the community is highschool and colledge kids. They are hardly honest when it comes to software. Hell i haven't bought a CD in years, the only reason i buy games is because its more convieneint then messing around with cracks and having to repacth them all the time. Companies have to wake up and stop fooling themselves about internet communities, intellecutual property is very difficult to protect.
Disclaimer : since everyone is afraid of the C (crack) word, i'm not advocating anything, just observing how communities typicly react to blatant acts of commercailism. No need to start a warez wicthhunt on my account.

THANK YOU!!! finnally some1 understands, everything u just said is wut ive been telling these ppl all along (except for thenot buying CDs part) and more, and ive been also saying HEK is good to some but not to others, just because u like it doesnt mean everybody has to, take HALO for instance, probably every1 on this site likes HALO, but i have friends at skool who think its the wrost game ever. so seriously, u think just because u like it every1 else has to? if thats the way your thiking then youve got SERIOUS mental problems, go see a phycatrist or something. I find SE and HMT just fine, ill use HEK but i dont like most of it, the world doesnt revolve around u, so dont say 'if i like this u have to or else im gonna bitch and complain about u until u do like it' and hopefully u will acctually listen this time.
