fraps sucks...so what else is there?

i have the demo version of fraps and, unless they coded the demo to eat fps, it isn't convincing me to buy fraps. i was wondering what other cheap and/or fps friendly recording and screenshot program there are. i will search and post what i find here.

my system stats: 30gig hard drive (a bit over a quarter full) 712mb of ram, pentium 4 (1.99ghz) and a standard dell video card

sites and finds:

1. camtasia studio, it's a neat program and it has more features than fraps. possibly able to eliminate or help with the fps problem. the downside is that it is $300 on their website, they have a free trail though. sadly, it doesn't seem to help with the fps issue, although it may be my system... http://www.techsmith.com/products/studio/

2. something called creative softworx...no download...no very good descriptions...no prices...i don't know about this one, but it's there...http://www.creativesoftworx.com/

3. techtv had an article on it's webpages, but at the moment they are joining with g4 tv and their website is being totally re-built. when it is finished i suggest going over there and looking for it. i think i will just make a link to my initial search though, because 1: it would be easier and 2: i wouldn't have to post link after link here. go check it out.

4. like CHEVYGUYchvy said, there's something callled snagit, i tested it and i couldn't get it to work in halo, only able to take pics of windows and my desktop...i say pass it up and stick with the printscreen button. get the free trial download here: http://www.sofotex.com/cgi-bin/ls/page. ... &link=9633

yea, i know, but it can't take consecutive screens...unlees you set it to open paint and paste into it after you hit the button each time, i would like that...

Fraps does suck, but its all thats out there that is free. There is somthing like windows media capture or somthin, its not free but its great. Sry but I kinda forgot the name. 10 sec is about 1,000 instead of fraps where its 10 sec for 100,000

you mean like 1000 frames in 10 sec?

or whatever. the best thing is still to record off of another computer... totally smooth and fullscreen recording

10 sec for 1,000? what are you talking about?

well, yea, but i want the finished product to be smooth. as high of a framerate as possible

That just might be the deal breaker right there.

yea megabites, gigabite there all the same to me. when you record 10 seconds with fraps it says under the clip 100,000, which is terrible. Some guy told me about the program i talkedabout above.

 ! just rememberd! theres a way to hook your comp to your video recorder and then have that record for you. That way your frame rate is perfect and you can just save the footage onto your computer from the video recorder. Accually i cant remember if it was the VCR or video recorder that you hooked the computer up to... ill get back to you guys on that
