Anybody want to beta-test a mod?

Post by dalecooper »

I have completed the beta version of a Blood Gulch mod. Anyone want to test? If so I'll zip it up and you can download it from my site. Features (quick overview):

1. Basic concept is a lunar/super mod. It takes place on something like the moon, and everything is comically exaggerated.

2. BG has been reskinned (texture-swapped) incl. the sky and ambient sound to approximate a moon surface-environment. Moderate superjumping is part of the package.

3. Weapons are changed in enormous ways. Rocket launcher has only two shots but does gigantic crapload of damage (refer to the Monoxide C video on the front page for an idea of what it does - only more so). Pistol is a "force gun" that blasts opponents off their feet, vehicles away from you. Assault rifle fires homing fuel rod shots that do little damage but shake your opponents half to death for maximum disoreintation. Grenades are semi-nuclear devices. Plasma rifles now fire much more effective needles. Etc.

4. Vehicles are altered. Mainly banshees are slower, fire the above-mentioned nuclear rockets from their secondary weapon, and ghosts are much faster for catapulting across the map. Gravity effect lessened on all vehicles. Major explosions will send them flying into the air. Collisions with vehicles are usually not fatal, as well.

5. Damage on nearly everything is reduced so that the massive explosions going on around you won't kill you instantly.

b/c of a particle effect I imported, this can't be ppf'ed; the DL is roughly a 5 meg map.

Here's the link - anybody who wants can DL it. Give me feedback in this thread. I'm interested in overall impressions, but particularly the relative weapon strengths, is it fun to play, that sort of thing. If you can LAN-test it with other people, that would be ideal.

You'll need to unzip it and then rename it to bloodgulch.map. This posting is temporary because I don't have much room on my site, so if anyone is interested, get it today please. Thanks!!

You can even go ahead and submit it, it doesn't bother me at all... just give me credit for the mod, of course. You also should probably mention in whatever credits are with it that the particle effect on the explosions was not my idea. I shoplifted that from the "Nuke!" thread. But it was so cool, I felt it deserved its own mod.

I was trying to make that a disorienting weapon, although for some reason it also disorients the person firing it, even from halfway across the map. If I can find a way to minimize the range on that, I will. I want it to have that effect, but only around where the shots land.

The nuke range is perfect! :D I know it's ridiculous, I wanted that to be a weapon that when fired is expected to hurt basically everyone. Unless you hide in a base or something (then it becomes part of the strategy).

The ironic thing about this is that I was going to do a mod very similar to this and start it today. But, since its already been done I might as well test it out  .
