I need help, which bitmap do I replace to fix this disgusting chrome like base? Like everymap I have has to same sort of look, all rocky floors, walls etc. have a disgusting chrome look to it..Any help please?

I'd just replace the entire bitmaps file, and then inject only the skins you want to avoid corruption.

Yeah, when in doubt start clean and retrace your steps.

Just re-injecting the original bitmap might cause it to look like shit, so yeah.
