Which program?

Ok, I feel completely and utterly retarded for asking this question, be cause I KNOW I'm seriously going to get burned for it. But I shall ask anyway.

I'm a beginner Modder, and I have no clue what to use, as far as modding programs and stuff. I've got SparkEdit for my maps, and the Helpful Halo Hacking Tool. Is there any program I can get to use for weapons? I mean, I'd like to change out the effects that they have, like an Assault Rifle firing fully auto sniper rounds (something crazy like that, you know? I don't know if I can get THAT, but changing out the projectiles would kick major ass).

Burn me and my question if you must. But I must know...

Thanks.

Oh yeah. If anyone can tell me how to use the Helpful Halo Hacking Tool, that would be nice.

From what I remember, helpful halo hacking tool is a patching program, which won't allow you to make mods but use others.

Here's a suggested list of tools:

HMT - You can edit weapons, the cheif, skins, etc.
HHT - regularly just used for dependency swapping (ie, using this, you can turn master chief into a warthog)
Eschaton - Eschaton can do what HMT and HHT can do, so I suggest using this. That, and it makes PMI a lot easier (putting a pelican into bloodgulch, etc).

Ya, what JK said those are the most used (really only used) tools for modding halo, But please do not post Mods that have only Projectile swaps. You wont be burned for asking the question, just posting mods like that, which is asking to be...well...you get the point.

These days, minimum for a mod is altering all weapons, fundamentally changing the map, or both.

Does that mean changing trees to rocks and stuff like that? By the way, thanks guys. Your information has been helpful.

You can do stuff like that in Sparkedit, which is a program I forgot to mention. It allows you to move/clone/change objects in a map.

If you plan on doing any modeling, you should get a 3D modeling program. I use Misfit modeler, which can be found on google.
