CSS and animations

I'm trying to use Doc's 3rd person animations.
Now I don't want to overwrite the flamethrower animations, so I just overwrote the Scorpion passenger's animations.
I'm now configuring the animation tag so that I can switch the Doc's energy sword weapon type to "energy sword". It's pretty tedious, but here's my question.
If, for example, I make a mod where I switch the weapon type for the assault rifle (which uses the weapon type "Sentinel/Gravity Rifle/AR") to the "Plasma pistol", will people who join without the mod see the way I hold it differently, or is that not "CSS"?
It's important that I know this because I want to import these 3rd person animations, but if they cause people who join to crash, I'm just going to skip this.
I'm afraid that once I get it working, that people who join without the mod will get an exception error because their game doesn't understand how they're holding the energy sword.
P.S. the energy sword is replacing the plasma rifle. Whenever you add new weapons into a map, the way to keep it CSS is if you use the oldest trick in the book: meta swap an existing weapon with the new one.
