Concerning Digital Viberance

Post by Pepsi »

Well someone asked me if I played Halo with it on or not and I have for a long time actually with it fully maxed. So I decided to turn it off and go into game and noticed that everything looked washed to me now and not really 'colorful'.

Question is, does anyone else play with Digital Viberance also? Reason im asking is that if hardly one does or if you have no clue what im speaking of then I might have to take a few steps back and redo alot of things or mod them.

Fire away with responses.

Never heard of it... prolly because it is a DirectX thing, and not an OpenGL thing.

yeah, kinda like that. except instead of messing with very sensitive gamma curves this is a simple slider for RGB values.

The only nVidia video card I own is hooked into the computer at my pad in Salt Lake City, and it's a OC'd 7600GT. It's a great card, but I don't have the digital vibrance setting. My computer here in Florida has got a Radeon HD 4750, and FTW Looks great and colorful enough to me. :)

I remember you telling me to jack that up way back when, that was on my old card. TBH, I dont even think I have drivers for this one, but usually I play with it up.

looks to me like you are just using nvidia software to tweak your monitor. i dont think that everyone that has nvidia necessarily has this option because everyone has diffferent monitor and card setups

Thank you for stating the obvious, as far as I know, Pepsi, I, Deadhamster, and Andrew all have nVidia cards, that is why we posted...

There are programs that can make digital viberance on any card. RivaTuner is one to name off the top of my head. Its not about nvidia, its about digital viberance in general.

No. Digital Viberance doesnt effect my SS. It only effects what I see. When you see a SS you see it by your settings on your monitor. The reason my SS's are so sexy is cause I have 2 extra files in my Halo folder that make it look sexy. Thoes 2 files will be released during BETA and during the release for everyone.

And no, it's not DXT Tweeker. Its something better and takes no resources hardly to mention about.

ATi>nVidia

ESPECIALLY price-wise.

I had a 9800GTX also and digital viberance wouldnt work due to the current drivers that came with the card. You have to upgrade (like you should be doing anyways) to the 180.1 drivers for it to take effect. I also can get digital viberance on my new card (GTX 280 FTW Edition) and I even had this on my old card from years ago (8600GTS). Its not about the card, its about the drivers.

There is always ways to circumvent this also by using a outside program to enable digital viberance if you cant. Im going to write a quick tut below to bring some people to clue in what ive been speaking of this whole time. Im running the 9800GTX for the tut with stock drivers to prove it works for that card. I know it works also for a 8600GTS cause that was my older card before and Ness uses it on a 7900 series to name a few. Also, way, way, WAY long time ago I was able to have digital viberance on a old 2001 eMachines stock monitor. Thats about as bad as you can get realistically as far as current hardware and it worked great on that.

---------------------- Begin Tutorial ---------------------

How to add Digital Viberance to your set up even when your current drivers/card wont allow it/have option for it.

1. Go to " http://www.guru3d.com/index.php?page=rivatuner " and download where it says.. "Download latest public build of RivaTuner".

2. Extract using winrar or useful .rar extraction tool.

3. Go into the "setup" folder and run the "rivatuner221.exe".

4. Go through all the prompts to install.

5. When program is installed it should look like this below..

Image

6. Next you want to click where it says "ForceWare Detected ....... Customize". See pic below for where im talking about.

Image

7. A side pop-up box will appear and you want to choose the one that looks like a monitor and when highlighted reads as"desktop overlay and color schemes". See pic below for example.

Image

8. You will now the program look something like this below.

Image

simply adjust the slider for digital viberance from left (not active) to right (fully active) to enhance your colors in your display.

9. I would suggest maxing it first and go web surfing and playing some Halo maps to get a idea of what things look like. Then I would bring it to half and try that. Some people prefer full and some prefer half. I myself use it maxed and hve been for years now and ive grown very used to it to where if I dont have it everything looks bland and ugly. Ness on the other hand only uses it at 25% and shes content with that. It's all about personal preference.

Once you find the setting you like just simply close the program and enjoy your new look and feel of color enhancement. This isnt like DXT Tweeker or anything like that, that needs to be running the whole time. Just make your setting and close.

Welcome to a more viberant and rich Halo. And yes, it does make a difference especially if your using a 22"+ monitor.

Sample Example Below:
Image

DISCLAIMER - READ IT BELOW

This is a very powerful video tweeking tool and can be used for MANY other things then just a digital viberance tweek. If you do not know what your doing in any other tabs DONT MESS WITH THEM!!!. Messing with other settings can cause serious issues with your hardware and I take no responsibility for you messing around with other things besides what this tutorial is about. If you go messing with your voltages and timings and fry your card IT IS NOT MY FAULT YOUR A IDIOT!

It took me literally, 5 solid minutes of staring an inch from the monitor to see a difference in the pictures, and even then it was the slightest difference. (If you don't think thats long, stare at the 2 for 5 minutes. Do it.)

TBH, as I remember it made a huge difference. Why do yours look so similar?

Cause I had to try to PS the difference. Taking a SS with it on and off doesn't work so I tried my best to replicate it without over exaggerating the difference. But like you said and I know.. It makes a huge ass difference.

I can tell the difference between them on my screen. I calibrated each to try to match what you had, and honestly without my equivalent of DV it is sucky. I am thinking of packaging a calibration in with the mac release of your mod pepsi, to bet suite the mod.
