New Campaign

If I wanted to go about making a new campaign for Halo, what would be the best way to go about it? The best way I can think to do it would be to make the levels in CE, then convert to singleplayer using Harbinger.

Bingo. That would be the easiest/best way to do it.

I may not be the best modeler, however, I've made it past the point where nothing really confuses me about 3ds max or Gmax.
All I can say is trial and error. Mess around with things, get to know the surroundings. It really shouldn't take that long. The only tutorial I ever really followed was Kirk's Halo CE mapping tutorials and a horrid gun modeling tutorial. But it at least showed me enough about Gmax (or 3dsmax), that I could get by fine on my own.

I suggest making simple bases, tag them, and put them in a level like Bloodgulch as practice. Custom scenery is easy, and it's tool-friendly.

Follow what he said. And if you ever do get as far as a new campaign, it may be better if kept in CE.

Yeah...Also...Campaigns are hard to make.

Why?

Its hard to make a single player bsp.

Why?

Single player bsps need the same modeling all the way through...Its hard to keep a drift going.

You cant just have mountain top...go through a tunnel and then be a swamp ya know?

Also with the ammount of scripting (which isnt too hard...i redid a30 for my 3rd CE mod) would annoy you. But its your choice. Right now i have something up my sleeve. CE would be the right way to go. Also once you get used to modeling for halo...you wont be able to forget it :P

Know how to script? If now, now's a good time to learn. If so, w00t. Get ready for some serious scripting action...

If you ever need scripting help feel free to ask me.
I can literally do almost anything with scripts including pelican insertion missions etc.

Also modeling is probably the most time consuming part of making a new campaign map...at least in my experience.

I have been reading the official HEK tutorial, I'll have to look at Kirk's as well.

Why is that?

The same modeling? Why can't you have a mountaintop that runs into a swamp? Does the game not allow it, or is it just bad form?

I have absolutely no idea how I would even begin to script so this would be immensely helpful. I'll PM you once I get going.

Where might I find these? I tried searching the forum and even google. Ironically, this thread was the number one search result, but that doesn't really help.

Edit:

Nevermind, I found them here: http://www.h2ek.com/resources/hce-tutorials/index.html
