Model Problems

So I had some old Morrowind mod models, and I converted them to .obj format. But when I try and insert them in HMT, i get this thing like "Indice Problem: The max number of indices allowed in this model are 2307. Your model has 6645." Then the thing closes.
Is there any way to either reduce the indices on the import model,
or make the number on the existing one higher? Edit: And when I found a model finally with a number of indices that fit, i got the same basic thing with subobjects

to import custom models you can either do it on a mac or do it using CE.
