yeah, thats pretty accurate.
but, i was playing at lunch during school, and we got exceptions for no reason, even when we all had the exact same maps. in fact, it wasn't ever rebuilt. all i did was change the crouching speed, added 6 tanks and 4 ghosts to blood gulch, shotguns shot homing, bouncing plasma grenades, and nothing was rebuilt.
about 3 minutes in, the host would get an exception, then, like a pattern, all the others got em every 2 seconds, from right to left. it was kind of weird...
so yeah, its not just on rebuilds or shanging IDs badly, if you make the slightest change, you run the risk of exceptions.

Never. A exception is never made randomly sometimes. A exception is always cause by a modification not supported by the game (like shooting a global lol :p).

yeah, that does pose some questions... all i did was made it possible to walk on walls, changed crouching speed and height, and scorpions. and all the computers had the exact same map...

I was about to say the school might've locked you out, but that wouldn't give you an exception.
And I doubt the school could do that anyway, I managed to shut down the two main programs used in one my classrooms for about 2 weeks, the guys they pay to do the tech. stuff couldn't fix it. I finally did in like 2 minutes, cause I got bored of sitting there for 45 minutes twice a day, one for each class.

you mean locked me out from gamespy? yeah, it did that. but we were playing on LAN with about 7 people today, and i put in some AI, it gave an exception to anyone who joined as soon as they did, even though it was just sentient cyborgs.
then the guy next to me hosted a non-modded map and we played the whole half hour, no exceptions. i had also forgotten to take off the mod, and as a result i couldnt enter the empty hogs(in my client they were occupied tanks) and i kept getting shot at..... but no exceptions.
this is so messed up...

well....maybe you shouldn't join a unmodded server with a modded map, especially one with AI? That might be part of it. Or just give everyone pepness maps, and watch them be like "zomg"! as you play. Either way, problem solved.

Ok. When you only have the map. So you get in start the server. Then your friends don't got the map, and there halo is like **** ZOMGZOMGZZINZF. Then you exception.

nope, i meant that every time we played, if we all had the same map, modded, and if it was the slightest change, we'd ALL get exceptions, even though it was just editing variables.
and after that, we all decided to play unmodded. i forgot to uninstall the mod, so the hogs had been replaced by scorpions with 5 Master Chiefs manning them. but that was only on my screen.
and i got no exceptions.
