If these sounds are illegal on this website, I'm sorry. I need to ask about getting some halo 3 sound effects for the Assault Rifle, and maybe grenade sounds, and the pistol.

yes it is illegal and not only here in general. I once thought it was a good idea to take the actual BR model from Halo 2 but then i was informed that that was illegal. make your own sounds.

doesn't seem illegal to me if you just record them while you play the game, then edit them to be slightly higher or lower. theres no law against recording things you hear!!!

There's a law against redistribution or replication of copyrighted materials. It is just as illegal to record the sounds from the game and use them as it is to rip the sounds from the maps and use them.

Then how do you replicate the sound? I'm curious now...

Well, sounds are very much subjective. A gun firing or whatever isn't going to be a problem to create yourself. Replication more refers to music, and other distinguishable things of that sort. (Also applies to, as was suggested, taking the sound and changing it slightly.)

Ah, but he's not going to rip them, or record them and keep them the same, now is he?

What? Who said he was? You said he should record the sounds and modify them. Changing the sounds doesn't make it any less illegal to redistribute them. They are assets that belong to the developer, and you don't have the rights to utilize them in a project like a mod. Did you completely ignore my second post while typing that message intended to talk down to me in a sarcastic tone? It would certainly appear so. Your solution is no better than any others that have been presented.

Either way, it isn't allowed on this site anyways, so it doesn't really matter.

Lmfao, Tural is right. You're dealing with the re-distribution of copyrighted material.

They aren't the same sounds being used or dispersed. If he makes it have a deeper pitch or something then they aren't halo 3's sounds. Bungie/MS didn't copyright thesounds every single pitch volume level treble and whatnot, only that one.

You don't have the slightest idea how the laws work, do you? If you manipulate the sound, it is not a new sound. It is a manipulated sound. You did not recreate it. If I have a car painted, it's still the same car. Just because it isn't the way it was made, does not change the fact that it is the same car.

It's illegal. It isn't allowed here. That's all there is to it.
