Problems Importing Models back into HMT

I'm new to editing Halo PC models so help me out...

Here's my problem:
I export the model I want to edit from HMT
-click Yes to promt
Open model in 3DS Max
(I go to File>Import>Wavefront .obj> browse to model..)
What options am I supposed to set for the import into 3ds?
(I can edit the model just fine)
I go to File>Export>Wavefront .obj> save model as original name
What options am I supposed to set for the export from 3ds?

It seems what ever options I set it never works when I try to import the new model back into HMT.
I get the following message:

"An unhandled exception has occurred in your application. If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click Quit, the application will be shut down immediately.

Unable to read beyond the end of the stream."


What's the deal?

Also, I'm trying to use Blender for editing these models as well but I'm having similar problems, so what Import/Export options should be used for Blender?

I've tried unchecking the Normals like Patrickh said.

i was talking about misfit. if you're really stuck, just dl misfit. it's free with no limitations, and it's got some cool features. hope this helps.

re-download HMT. see if that works.

Does the modified weapon have the same verticies and indecies as the old gun you edited. If yes- I dont know what is happening. If no, they need to be the same.

I downloaded Misfit, it works for quick simple model adjustments, but I find it more difficult to select and manipulate vertices and faces... I thought of exporting from blender to misfit and then to HMT, sounds silly and it didn
