About rebuilding sp maps...

I got a very good idea for a mod that I would like to try out in singleplayer first, and then take to multiplayer.

Which brings me to... Can you rebuild a singleplayer map with only singleplayer objects, etc.? Or does it still not work even though there are no multiplayer objects in it?
