modded map...unplayable

Hey all,
First of all I'll say I'm a bit new to map editing.
I have:
Halo PC (full edition)
Halo Custom Ed.
HMT 3.5
SparkEdit
When I edit a map in HPC and hit "Save" in HMT I load halo and when I want to test the map to see if edits work the map is dimmed and I cannot play it.
So then I have to delete the modded map and copy/paste the backup map and start over again.
Can anyone give me an idea as to why it isn't working?
Some considerations:
patches (where to get them i dont know)
"save" and "meta save" (both screw up and dim the map)
Thanks,
LordofdaVipers

Make sure the map you are testing is not open in HMT, or any other modding tool.

if it minimizes, and says: Gathering Exeption Data...
it is because you did something that was physically impossible to the game. like proj swapping a bitmap.
if it is for something else, i can't help u.

I only had this happen to me once. Turned out that I still had the map opened up in HMT.

Turns out I did leave HMT open as I edited my map(s). I will close it and then test and reply back.

UPDATE
That did work, it is not dimmed anymore...now I get the gathering exception error...what I want is to change the rounds or sniper and shotgun (or any other weapon) to a higher ammt. and I hit "save" and it does a refresh thing and everything is blank so I assume it is saved, I close out, open and go to a room then it closes w/ that error.
I just wanna edit rounds/clips for weapons.
Any suggestions now?

I cannot put a number in the dropdown list for clip or projectile, only "0" is a choice with auto fill-in options (see projectiles stuff; i didnt modify that)
I'm not sure what's wrong.

The 0 stands for which clip you're editing. Select that, then edit the values.
After that, create your own room, don't join another cause that can cause some trouble.

I've reviewed what y'all have said and am pretty much clueless as to why it isn't working now. I choose "0" from the dropdown, update the content and hit "save" and I get the error.

I still cannot get it to work. If anyone can help me (guide me through it) I simply want:
Sniper rifle to have
-Clip- (I choose "0" and then edit)
Starting Ammo: 100
Maximum Ammo: 200
Clip Size: 50
Reload Time (I leave default)
Shots Reloaded: 50 (if 50 is too much then it can be lower like 30 or something)
Let me also add this is for multiplayer...I don't know if that helps much.
Do I need plugins to edit weapons? If so I don't know which ones or where to get them.
