Get Steelix's Model Extractor (sorry it's for the HEK though).
Use the process to convert a gbxmodel to a .3ds or .obj. Import into Max, apply the objects bitmap as a material, and it'll have it's UV maps restored. Go to the modifiers list, find UV mapping, click edit, and save the UV map.
