Hi, I'm coming from HCE editing to HPC, and I'm wondering what the best way to edit stuff related to weapon HUD's and crosshairs. For example, I want to add a scope to the plasma rifle and assault rifle, with working "lense" effect, as well as new crosshair/reticles which are used in tandem with the old ones, depending on whether or not you're using the scope. I.E.:
I know how to do all this stuff in HEK/Guerilla, but I don't know how to do it in Halo PC. In HMT, there is a HUD Interface section, but it does not have the Crosshair, Crosshair Overlay, and Screen Effects entries that Guerilla does. Can someone please point me in the right direction; is there a utility which can edit this stuff, or is there some other way to do it? Thanks.
That is because HMT was created before the HEK was released. It lacks most of the editing features that Geurilla has.
Phenomena designed a Screen Effect - Weapon HUD Interface plugin. But it would have to be used to edit the existing HUDs that already have screen effects because HMT cannot add chunks to reflexives as easily as Geurilla can.
As for Crosshair Overlays, last time I checked, I'm pretty sure it was a nested reflexive. (A reflexive within a revlexive) HMT doesn't support those, either.
So, conceivably, for the screen effects, ie, to add a "scope" to the assault rifle, I could use the pistol HUD interface, make whatever asdjustments I want in Phenomena's screen effect plugin, then edit all the other stuff the match the assault rifle (ie reticle, ammo meter, hud messages, etc)? I guess that would work.
I'm still interested in Crosshair Overlays though. I could just make a new bitmap, but I like the fact that with crosshair overlays, you can make the different components work under different situations. For example, the AR in my mod is more accurate when fired in short bursts, so in CE, I had a plasma rifle reticle reduced to .1 size in the center, so you could use that to fire pinpoint shots, and the large circle for extended, large spread fire. With the crosshair overlays, I could set the pinpoint reticle to only show up when zoomed, so it wouldn't get in the way durring close range combat. You don't have that option using just a single bitmap.
Is there not any PC-compatible utility capable of doing multiple crosshair overlays? I found that I actually could do the crosshair overlays in Guerilla, then open the map in DotHalo and export the HUD interface as a meta tag, then import it into a PC map, but you can injext meta tags if they're bigger than the original tag, and adding crosshair overlays or screen effects seems to always extend the file size. I guess I could delete the "2X" graphic overlay and put the 2nd reticle graphic overlay in it's place, and then maybe the file size would even out. it'd just make the scope display look a bit sparse (if it worked).
