The Ruins of Halo

Hey all! Okay, on my site we do mods by sets (Seasons) and right now we're about to start the fifth one. It's one of those deals where all the maps in the set carry the same theme. Anywayz, this time around I thought it'd be interesting to do a post-Halo set. You know, after the ring is destroyed. Only a few tweaks need to be done concerning weaponry but here are some screens. Opinions and suggestions are welcome. No bashing please. Much thanx! :)

Well thank ya much :D I've been planning this one for a little while. Seems like you have quite a resume there too! Modeling has never been a big thing for me either. I will tell you though, I've been working on trying to get Halo 2 sounds into the map. It isn't absolutely necessary, but it would be cool to give the grenade launcher the sounds of the Brute Shot :) Thanx for the comment :)

One more thing. When I try to PM u, I get an error message. It's probably a site thing, but hopefully they'll fix it.

So what do u all think about the Halo 2 sound thing? I'm also trying to give the frag grenade a contrail. I thought the smoke was, but apparently it's apart of the particle system.

I know how to make grenades leave different contrails...For example, I've made flaming trail grenade mods before...Just tell me what meta you want to swap it with, and I'll tell you exactly what to do. This is for PC, right? I don't know H2 modding.

Thanx! :D I thought I might give the grenades a needler contrail and then just make the shade of the contrail more of a yellow-orange to mimic the grenades launched from the brute shot. The bounce effect should be the easy part :)

how'd u put the fire there? is it sparkedit scenery? did u have to pmi?

I was able to PMI the fire in from the Maw. The rest is reskinning. Right now I'm toying with the idea of having fire fall from the sky too, just like a real Apocalypse. Muahahaha!...(cough...sputter...cough)...yeah, u know. ;) So far I'm still trying to give grenades a needler contrail and the grenade launcher the sounds of the Brute Shot. Right now there's another weapon in there called the Solar Flare that fires blue fuel rod rounds. The Stealth Generator and the Hyper Gun (aka...the Red Needler) are among some of the other weapons you'll find throughout the map as well.

Well thanx! I should have the alpha version of this up and running by tomorrow. It's a free download from my site. While you don't have to register or anything to get it, I'm not posting a direct link. I want you to explore the site to find it ;) I'll be releasing later versions as soon as I can get the Halo 2 sound effects and contrails to work right. So what do you think of the background music? Does it carry the theme across? Here's a link: Tyrant Battle Net

Well the map is out and ready for download! You can find it HERE. I'll post the topic from my site here so you all can get an idea of what exactly this particular map contains.

First off, you'll notice how the vehicles have been heavily charred, some of them even completely engulfed in flames. Trust me, they won't be of much use to you here. The fire here is nothing like what you encountered in the campaign. This stuff will actually kill you. Even if you manage to speed off in one without completely your health, most of the map is in flames and large vehicles make it harder to avoid. The smaller, more manueverable you are, the more likely you are to survive. Next up, while the Stealth Generator still spawns in active camo, the stand-alone power-up is nolonger on the board. Now we have double speed, enabling you to shoot through the flames before they eat right through your shields and health. The old base to base warps have been removed to make it that much more difficult to capture the flag in good ol' game of TBN Valediction. And now without further ado, the weapons...

Mac 10: Once the pistol, now a spewing hose of 9mm bullets. At close range this can be used to finish off a weakened oponent.
Pulse Rifle: Upgraded to more powerful pulses that now ricochette off of walls and metal, it can easily bring down an unsuspecting enemy in no time flat, but watch out for the backfire...

Stealth Generator: Back to shield its owner from view, the S.G. makes its triumphant return to the Gyro Horizon battlefield.

Hyper Gun (aka...the Red Needler): It has a slightly slower rate of fire than the Campaign needler, but each little shard packs three times the punch, making that chain reaction a more reasonable goal.

Zero-G Rifle: This has been labeled as anti-vehicular. It does little against infantry other than bringing down their shields, but it hurls everything back with devastatingly powerful force-push.

Fragger: Well, you've been asking for a grenade launcher, so here it is, a Halo 1 version of the Brute Shot. Mainly used for close-to-medium-ranged combat, two to three well placed shots can bring down any unfortunate oponent standing near the compressed explosions.

Diode Rifle: Kinda like the Halo 1 answer to the Covenant Beam Rifle in Halo 2, the Diode Rifle emitts a powerful laser beam. Only this beam is red and quickly homes in on its unsuspecting prey.

Solar Flare: An upgraded fuel rod cannon, this beast has been completely revamped for battle from its original appearance in Season Three: Twilight. Packing a punch three times stronger than its smaller cousin the Fuel Rod Gun, this monster's blue fuel rod mortor is not to be underestimated.

HAVOK Launcher: Ah, a classic right? What good would an Apocalypse be without nuclear weapons? With a new look combined with its original tactical nukes, this weapon is always a challenge to find, but means certain doom for all of its victims.

Thanx! Of course Blood Gulch is only the first map in the Season. If any of you feel like contributing to what goes into the next 8 or 9 maps, be sure to become a member of one of the teams on my site! We're open to ideas and welcome the presence of skilled modders and idealists :) Thanx again!
