I currently only have Halo Trial version, I'll be getting the two copies of the full version once our tax returns get here (for my wife and me). I know how to hex so it isn't a question about hexing... I was just curious what edits that people have done, that also worked well for a client that didn't have the hexed map. I made a decent rocket and tank mod, you started with sniper and fuel-rod, snipers shot rockets, and the rocket hag was replaced by a tank. It all looked and worked great on my end, but on the client's end the weapons and tank looked like the standard weapons and rocket warthog, tho they functioned like I had entended. Even a simple pistol that shot rockets mod didn't work well on the clients end (the pistol looked to be shooting bullets, but if you hit somone they would fly into the air like they were hit by a rocket, but you wouldnt see an explosion). The only thing that looked right on the client's end is what regen where (pickups only, not vehicles). Anyone know of any other hex mods that work well on the non-modded client's end? If this has been answered before, I apologize, and could you please point me to that thread. Thank you for your time and assistance.
Most of the flying people and flying warthog mods I've seen have really sucked (only because of the lag effect). I've heard of a proggie called HHT, but not HMT, can anyone provide a link? And item pickups (power-ups and weapons) will appear properly on the unmodded client's end (just changing exsisting item collection spots). By the way, for my weak hex-edited Halo Trial mods check out mods.jumpto.com (shameless plug). I haven't spent much time on the site cause I want to play some Halo...
Idk that I buy that whole 2 coppies for you and your wife thing, but w/e, I'll take your word for it. But modding doesn't work nearly as well on the client side as it does on the modder's side, unless the client has that particular mod installed. Prety much the only things that they notice are the location and amount of the objects you place in the map, and the effects of weapons, none of the appearances you get. I seriously suggest you use hmt or hht or sparkedit or whatever works for the trial version, and keep using them when you get the full. And the last time i checked (just before I posted this), all you have to do to get flying characters is tick a tickbox.

Starting with different weapons.
you can start every one with different weapons if you switch the "item collection" meta tags with HMT 3.5 and your serving. I have created the first mod that everybody starts out with snipers instead of assault rifles. it works. I am the server you'll see up in the demo called EHI_ snipers. pw is lemon
Er, I thought all you had to do to specify sniper weapons only was select it in the halo menu under edit new game. Or is that not the case for the trial version???
