turrets, not the covie ones

I was wondering how to make a turret in any map. Not a covie turret but a gun turreet where u stand up, like th one on the back of the hog. Any ideas or answers on how to make this sort of thing then please help

I've been wondering about the same thing, ever since I saw the pictures for the Turret mod in HeH and BC.

ive tried doing that LOOONNNGGG b4 the turret mod came out, it was actually my first modding idea. anyways, i have not done it yet, but ill tell u once i figure it out.

My most recent mod has them:

Two on each base. As far as how they were done, I started with a tutorial available on this very site (check under downloads) that explains it. The short version is, you change the nature of the hog's gunner seat, then you activate a couple of custom meta alterations through HMT. One alteration de-activates collision detection for the hog body (but not the gun). The other lowers the warthog down so that the vehicle is inside the ground while the gun is above ground.

What is not explained is how to make the hog vanish so that you only see the gun. I did some work on that myself. If you open up the map in the above zip file in HMT and scroll through the bitmaps and shaders for the warthog, you can see what I replaced them with to make the different pieces more or less vanish.

you could also probably just extract the model of the hog turret and inject it over the covie turret

sorry for 2x post but a got a message of a question about step 5.
the directions were a little unclear instead of PMing me i'll answer here.

ok in the folder turrets that i gave out for DL there should be a coll and a vehi file that is a xml file or something like that. put those two files in the HMT3 plug-ins and replace the originals if there were any. (for 1 there isn't any so just put it in there without deleteing anything for the other delete the original)<<<u'll get it l8r
so then to Kill Physics", "Kill Antenna", and "Lower to Floor":
go to vehicles and then select the 3 little dotty thingys.it is above the seat selcetor thing.(middle of the page when u select the warthog)
fill in the dots and ur in :wink:

I did the warthog turret tutorial, but when i go play the map, the warthog hull image is still there. I can walk through it and everything, but its still there. what do i do? :?:

When u say start out with a fresh cache.map i hope u dont mean like a not modded one cause if u do im screwed

I'm Glad I Know How To Do That Turret Mod. I've Explained It Before In This Forum. You Use Same Strategy Of What I Said. Your Lucky If You Fiqure It Out. But I Don't Think Duarmo Will Like Me If I Tell. U Know, Like You Fiqure Out Sumtin No One Knows And Then Someone Blurts Out How To Do It.

ok now i have gotten the hole turret thing perfectoed so its hot. Well now i wanna make replace a piece of scenery with it and get my precious hog back, well how do i do it???

ok, so, i made a warthog gun turret, but the main warthog is still visible. i changed the collision models of everything unrelated to the hog to off, i deleted the names of the 1st and 2nd hog seats, and i clicked "kill physics" "lower to ground" and whatever the third option was. this was all done on an unedited death island map. when i went to go play, like i said before, the hog was still there, but i could walk through it and couldnt drive it, i could only use the gun (which is what i want). so, how do i make main hog body invisible?
