yes, sometimes this happens, but oddly you can fix it by the placement of your cursor. But your curson on the arrow of the z axis or higher, or it might get confused on which axis you want to move it on

click on the object you want to move with the move cursor thing. then at teh bottom it says X: blah Y: blah Z: blah. You can punch in numbers for exact movements.

try pressing x.. or z... I had the same problem... I accidently pressed either x or z, and I had full 3-dimensional movement again.
