I dunno about Vista. I've never used it, so I can't really say. I know you have to decide right now, but I would stick with XP until Windows 7 comes out.

I personally use Vista, Windows Vista Ultimate 64-Bit, and I disliked it from the start, while it has now gotten bearable to use regularly, I still suffer from random crashes, freezes and the infamous Blue Screen when loading apps.
Vista does NOT behave the same on all computers, its defiantly better for the store bought computer which were, from the ground up, designed and tested to run on the OS they were intended to run on, they need make sure it works right before marketing it, and if it doesn't, its often a hardware issue, some things just don't like to work together, and Vista is not as fault tolerant as XP was. If your buying a pre-built computer with Vista already on it, go ahead, but as for installing it on a computer which wasn't built and certified to run it, cross your fingers. I am pretty sure Pepsi has a custom built computer as do I, there's a reasonable chance it will be a little finicky in areas. I myself, used Windows XP for years, and about 6 months on this current computer, eventually, I made the switch to Vista because I wanted to make use of my DX10 capabilities.
I partitioned, and formatted my drives, installed Vista, and right off the bat I had issues. You cannot fully blame the OS for this either, its just not as... stable as others out there, but that doesn't mean it wont work fine for you.

Wow, what are you doing on your computer? I have never blue screened on my life, and from what I know, I have a pretty bad computer for vista...

Yes, Its not about my mobo, BIOS or CMOS. Its simply fate telling me stfu, evolve and go to vista. Ive accepted this as fact and im conforming to Vista tomorrow.

Im on Vista now but I have a long way to go

I finally got Firefox installed so now I can at least surf the net getting what I need to recover. Why does Vista need to load like every little thing? I mean it's like I go into the control panel and I have to wait for it to load. WTF srsly. I dunno. Im sure im going to have to tweek this alot before im happy with it but as for now its terrible. Then of course I havent been using it but for like a hour now. Who knows.

So I got a pile of driver discs here that need to install and im still trying to get my RAID controller to be accepted by Vista cause it being dumb not letting me.

Anywho.. Ill post some screens or something when I get all this final.

Im a Vista noob. How do I do that? And what else can I do to speed this thing up? Like I know the normal tweeks as far as msconfig and regedits but is there some magical setting that I can cleck that says...

What version of Vista do you get? You'll probably want to set up an Administrator account, no not the built in one.

Warning- This runs everything as administrator, careful when using.

Alrighty Try this,
1. Open Elevated Command Prompt
How:
1a)
1. Open the Start Menu.
2. Click on All Programs and Accessories. (See screenshots below)
3. Right click on Command Prompt and click Run as administrator.
4. Click on Continue in the UAC prompt.
OR
1b)
1. Open the Start Menu.
2. In the white line (Start Search) area, type cmd
3. Press CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER.
4. Click on Continue in the UAC prompt.
OR
1c)
1. Open the Start Menu.
2. In the white line (Start Search) area, type cmd
3. Right click on cmd (at top), and click on Run as administrator. (See screenshot below)

2. In the elevated command prompt, type net user administrator /active:yes and press Enter.
3. Click on the new Administrator account display picture icon and log on to it.

To Disable:
Make sure you are NOT logged into the administrator account.
1. In the elevated command prompt, type net user administrator /active:no and press Enter.
2. You will get the message, The command completed successfully. If not, repeat the step.

Also pepsi, the vista start bar search is your friend. I use it so much it's not funny, most useful tool ever put into a os.
