I believe this will let halo CE go as far as "next-gen" with the graphical limits. As for getting halo in the engine, i'll have to find a way to cross that bridge when i come to it.
Also Ryan, I have a friend that wants to do the same thing. I can give you his IM if you want.

I'd be willing to do this. I have Crysis and I would be interested in working on this mod. Also this would be perfectly legal and fine since Crytek is encouraging modding.

Glad this topic picked up an interest.
Since my last post here i've been doing a ton of research, and have finally come to a conclusion on how to accomplish this.

@Waev
You wouldn't use HMT, you would use a 3D application like, maya or 3ds Max (I use both).

@JK-47
Basicaly, yes. I will be putting halo into cryENGINE 2, but not quite as simple as that. And, yeh, this will require to practically rebuild halo.

@bcnipod
Brilliant, I'd appreciate his email address, thanks :wink:

@Trek2112
Great that your interested, I'll need all the help I can get.

Now cryENGINE 2 isn't easy for the average guy to obtain. Crytek only licence it to proffesional game companies, and then there's the minor fee of 500k. But, the company just released the mod sdk for Crysis, and with it, you can (and people already are) perform a "Total Conversion".
A total conversion is usualy, taking a game, using the provided SDK (software development kit) and wipe the original game clean, and make your own.
Crysis is extra helpfull with the provided level editor, named "Sandbox tools". Google it and you'll see some briliant videos of it's power. It's the same level editor used to construct Crysis, and it's included with the game.
Putting halo into this, is going to be back breaking. The artistic side of things (the 3d models, the animation, the textures) can easily, yet time consumingly be done. But for coders (and I'm no coding wizard) have kinda left me clueless.
You would have to take the coding from halo, or replicate it, to make this game work, or else master cheif will be running around with Maximum armor, or Maximum speed etc.
Point is, we can take bits and bobs from the original halo, and use it to cut corners. But I would imagine that some parts will need to be replicated.

Like I said, it's easy for the artists, because there's access to all the models n stuff, which can be modified to greater detail. But when it comes to coding, I'm not even sure how you get access to halo's functions that make master cheif, do what he does.

As for Legal matters, I do believe that I'm crossing a boundry. It's like making our own version of halo, and microsoft own the game, the characters and stuff (not sure how it's split with bungie).

Anywayz. In the end, it should make halo, look like halo 3. For your PC. I love the idea, and am very determined to succeed. But hell no, can I do this alone.

I think it would be cool to have him run around with the maximum strength and other abilities ;p
As for the legality issue... It's not like you are claiming rights to it and selling it around. I'm sure it would be ok, as long as you don't take credit for everything and attempt to sell it ;x

This is a great idea, though.

I never even thought about selling lol. I would be happy enough to let it go public.

Apparently, this may turn out to be just like Halogen.
A team took halo, and performed a total conversion on Command and Conquer. It looked awsome, and took 3 years. And just about on release, Microsoft took it down.
Reasons why? Some think it's because the halogen was breeching copyright for use of halo. Others beleive it's because, microsoft were working on Halowars, and never wanted Halogen to get in the way.

So I don't know whether to hide it to a small part of the public, ask microsoft's permision, or just release it to a large part of the public. I personaly think, asking microsoft, is suicide. If they reject it, they'll make sure that the idea doesn't carry through, and that's just crushing dreams.

I didn't mean use HMT as a modeling program. HMT won't inject models that don't have the same number of vertices, indices, etc.

You can make the model, but HMT won't inject it for you.

I've been wondering, but why cant you inject the model thats to big/small for it?

Well, i don't think I will be using HMT at all. Seeing as this is practically a Crysis mod.

If this game is a carbon copy of Halo then we would need people who know the Halo levels inside and out.

I'd like to keep in mind, for some who think that I am trying to recreate the whole game (including campaign), is not happening. It's just one custom map that will be played in.

Although assembling a team isn't the next step for me, people who plan to help out can pm me, or post here.

I think that we should look to get models of the corvernent and experiment with those first before we start making levels.

The model exporting should be easy to do, if long. All you must do is go into HMT and export each and every model. same with the bitmaps.
