We talking for single player or for multiplayer? Heh, ill do both..

Single Player:
Open Single Player map of your choice in a program named Eschanton. In it you will see a tab named "Dependency Swapper". Click this. Then you will see a long list down the left side with four letter abbreviations. You want to find one named "bipd". This stands for bipd tag. Biped is another name basically meaning a character meaning anyone from the chief to a marine to a grunt. Click biped tag and it will expand a new row in the middle of the program. Now you want to find Master Chief but in all Halo programs he is known simply as "Cyborg". What you want to do is when you click any version of "cyborg" referenced in the middle row and list now appears to the right now. These are your dependency's. You will notice your dependency's now have tags by them as well. The first dependency should be one named "mod2". This mean model as in the model thats being used to reference this character. You want to hightlight that dependency and down bottom right on Eschaton there will be a drop down box. Click it and choose the character your looking for. Say your looking for a grunt then choose the mod2 that almost looks simular o what your swapping. For this example we will swap a grunt in for master chief.

Your original dependency would be:
characters\cyborg\cyborg

You will be swapping it with:
characters\grunt\grunt

Next you will want to go down the list and swap everything dealing with "cyborg" to "grunt" related tags.

Multiplayer:
This is going to involve a process named PMI. PMI stands for perfect model injection. Considering of how your post is worded I going to venture you have no modding experience at all or nor do them. To play as covenant on the multiplayer level they will have to learn how to PMI and make the mod themselves. The best PMI tutorial I know of can be located here. Once they have successfully done that tutorial then ill further elaborate on how to inject different bipeds in other maps. Until then consider your hubby and son having homework to do.

Useful Tips:
If your looking for just mods to install on your own use the search button the site offers and search for the particular mod you want or take a walk through our downloads and outstanding section and read what each mod has to offer.

Also if you invest in something called HaloCE you can find tons of stuff there pertaining alot to playing as covenant and other Halo atmospheres. HaloCE is a expansion of HaloPC and is free only needing your origional HaloPC CD Key to activate it to insure you do actually own HaloPC itself allowing you to use HaloCE. Everything you need dealing with HaloCE can be found here

Now tell your hubby and son to quit bugging you and if they want to play as covenant so bad then I told you everything you need to know to make this work for them. The other alternative is to have windows vista installed on your computer and buy Halo2Vista or get Halo2 for Xbox or Halo3 for Xbox360.

Or use HHT (I don't remember if Eschaton has plugins for ACTV yet) and swap biped dependencies tags under [actv].

I was trying to plug a better program UPS cause you can do tons more with Eschanton vs. HHT, but you are correct it can be done with HHT also.
